We had a horrible dining experience at this restaurant. The food was mediocre at best, our waiter was delightful. The manager (Edgar) was rude and would not even come to our table when we asked to speak to him. (We were going to compliment the waiter). When requested to come to our table, he overtly avoided our table as we waited for over 30 minutes to speak with him. We finally left the restaurant, and spoke to him on our way out. I assured him that we would never be eating in this restaurant again. [03 Mar 2003 22:14:05]

Terrible Visited the Gables Restaurant on Mount Dora tonight. We frequent the restaurants in the area and wanted to try something different. Mistake, big mistake.
The first impression of the restaurant is a positive one, is well decorated, until you see all the price tags on all the decorations. Not really nice to sit down to have a nice meal and know that the lamp on your table is available for $80.
Our dinner consisted of french onion soup and steak. The waitress brought the soups and bread. Strike One: the soup was extremely acidic and the bread in it was burned. Strike Two: the bread served on the table was old, more so that it tasted stale and rubbery. Strike Three: a "well done" steak was served with blood running from it, effectively ruining the vegetables. After all this it was more than obvious that the dessert was to be skipped.
Paid the check and on the way out met with the manager and explained the situation. He basically blew us off. He did not apologize for anything, was extremely rude and basically said we were wrong, and that there was nothing wrong with the food. Definitely not a "people person".
During our time in the restaurant, we witnessed three other tables returning salads because they were old, bread because it was stale, and fish because it was raw.
To summarize the experience, go to the Gables to buy the decorations, not the food. There are far better restaurants in Mount Dora. By the way, I'm a Chef. [05 Apr 2006 23:25:51]
