Asian Fusion It's good to see a new, upscale restaurant come to Ocala. Unfortunately, Sky doesn't live up to its promise nor expectations. Hopefully after a few more weeks experience they will have their act better together and will be a shining star in the community.
But from the folks who brought you Dee Dee's Dog House, we were a bit disappointed. No major problems, just a slightly above average ambiance (as they try to emulate the best of Las Vegas but come across as a little too much randomness) and not yet polished service ("how are you guys tonight?")
Food was generally good but trying to provide a fusion of culinary arts from 5 disparate Asian countries, in the decidedly blue collar midsection of Florida, just didn't work. The result was an unsophisticated menu which missed a lot of what could be offered and instead seemed to have various Asian sauces and treatments on the usual suspects (pork, beef, shrimp).
Tasty, yes, but be sure you check first as to the spiciness of the dishes if searing hot simply ruins food for you (no mention on the menu or did the waiter ask our preferences ... and the result was way over the top).
The notable bright star was the awesome dessert menu which included Chocolate Torte with macadamia nut ice cream and raspberry coulis, and Gingerbread Sandwich with Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream, apricots and caramel sauce. Alas, portions were about a third too small.....
We will definitely go back mainly to see how they do their Kung Pao chicken ... they really have potential. [20 Sep 2007 16:05:00]
