Very good food, problems with service Of the two sushi options in Ocala, Tony's definitely has the better food. Presentation, flavors, freshness...all are an unqualified success. At a recent dinner I enjoyed the tuna tataki (which is not the usual sweeter version but robust & garlicky) and the Volcano roll...a lovely bite-size presentation of eel, masago and avocado. Extra ginger and eel sauce came as requested.
HOWEVER, we waited an additional 35 minutes to receive my dining companion's dinner of teriyaki salmon. We had hoped to eat this meal together and I was just glad nothing I'd ordered would go cold with the wait. The owner sent over a free beer as consolation and our waiter finally explained that the kitchen lost the order ticket and were refusing to cook without it. Finally the owner got involved and the dish arrived...as we were about to get up and leave. The cooked salmon was very good...the long wait, however left a bad taste. It will be a long, long time before we venture back. I fault the waiter for not being on top of the situation and getting a resolution sooner. I fault the owner for not having implemented better food service policies. [05 Aug 2002 12:23:18]

Food and service have always been top notch. Never any problems. Anything from the Teppanyaki is great. Way better than Kotobuki. Comfortable and clean atmosphere. [15 Jun 2003 19:46:08]

wonderful I have been a long time diner at Tony's and have never had a bad experience. Everyone I have encountered has been a pleasure to talk with and have wonderful care and service. When you ask for a special item not on the menu it is always accomplished. The fish is always fresh and tasty. [07 Aug 2003 14:58:54]

Great Food, Service and Entertainment We at at Tony's on a trip to Ocala to visit family. There were 6 of us and an infant. The food, service and entertainment at the Teppanyaki grill were excellent. Before leaving, Tony came over and introduced himself to us. As promised, we will return to eat there on our next visit as well. [09 Dec 2003 06:05:29]

Unexpectedly Surprised I am an avid visitor of many Japanese Steakhouses/Sushi bars. I'll admit when first hearing the name, "Tony's Sushi...." I was like, "Tony??? Japanese??" I don't know if anyone else thought along the same lines as myself, however, upon arrival I was unexpectedly suprised and pleased. I always sit at the Tapanyaki because I enjoy the entertainment and watching the food cooked in front of me. The food-ALWAYS DELICIOUS there. The entertainment...not so much. We always see Tony walking about checking up on people and always with a smile on his face. The servers are always so polite. I love this place and would recommend it to anyone! Oh, and the sushi is wonderful as well! Haha...I can't say enough. [02 Jan 2004 10:42:31]

Tony's Sushi - Thank God! This is the real deal - as good as any I have had in all the major cities in this country. The atmosphere is right out of Tokyo, the right blend of Japanese kitsch and charm. The people are amazingly friendly and Mike (who owns the place with his brother Tony) is the sushi maestro. He came over to the table to meet us and take sushi after we raved about the Dragon Roll. This is our new home away from home. We cannot wait to try all the special rolls and the Teppanyaki (Japanese Steakhouse style cooking). Bravo! [07 Aug 2006 22:11:20]
