Description
Ege Sushi and Japanese Cuisine was established in the middle of 2005 by head chef and owner Tomoaki “Tomo” Ege. Ege Sushi and Japanese Cuisine opened its doors on Tuesday, September 13th, 2005 for lunch services only. A week later, on Monday, September 19th 2005, they began serving both dinner and lunch.
Ege Sushi and Japanese Cuisine has been the place to go for the local Japanese expatriates for lunch and dinner. The expatriates have rated Ege Sushi’s Udon and Donburi entrees as the best in Atlanta. They especially love the “feel” of the restaurant. Atlanta weather is similar to that of Tokyo city; hot and humid in the summer and cold in the winter. Certain Japanese food is enjoyed seasonally. The expatriates like how they can order seasonal foods to fully enjoy the current season. The Sapporo on tap is a big bonus for them and is one of the only restaurants in Atlanta that serves it. Draft beer is especially popular in the summer.
Ege Sushi and Japanese Cuisine is becoming known for a few other things as well. One of the more popular dishes is the Gyu-tan. Head Chef Tomo prepares it in a way that allows you to enjoy the full-range of textures, from the tougher parts to the tenderest pieces.
The sushi bar is kept well-stocked with the most popular sushi items, such as tuna, salmon, yellowtail and flounder. The tuna is usually either bigeye tuna or bluefin. Interestingly enough, because of the small size of the restaurant, they do not achieve the same volume as some of the larger restaurants. Usually this would cause the distributors to relegate the lower quality fish to them. However, due to the years of experience in the restaurant industry, Head Chef Tomo is able to procure the best items.
The three most popular sushi dinners are the Sushi A, Sushi B and the Chirashi dinners. The Sushi A and Sushi B dinners have seven different nigiri sushi. The Sushi A dinner allows one maki-mono choice, while the Sushi B dinner allows two choices. The roll can be the Tekka Maki, the Eel Roll, the California Roll, the Shrimp Tempura Roll or the Spicy Tuna Roll. The Chirashi dinner is essentially sashimi served over sushi rice. The Chirashi dinner has three cuts of tuna and a single cut of salmon, yellowtail, flounder, mackerel, squid, octopus and tamago. All three dinners are served with miso soup and salad and are excellent choices for those who want a small variety without going through the trouble of picking each type.
An interesting note is that the “shredded” daikon served with the sashimi orders as garnish is not actually shredded or grated. It is actually hand-shaved into long rows and stacked. It is then hand-sliced thinly to produce the strips of daikon. In Japan, the “shredded” daikon is called Tsuma and is typically eaten.
Japanese food is not only tofu, seaweed, fish and noodles. For individuals who do not like fish, Ege Sushi and Japanese Cuisine has grilled Teriyaki chicken and flamed broiled prime cuts of beef glazed with Teriyaki. If that does not do it for you, try the shrimp and vegetable tempura. Another big hit is the Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) dinner deep fried just right so that they are tender and juicy.
Ege Sushi and Japanese Cuisine is opened for dinner Monday to Saturday. Dinner times are from 5 PM to 10 PM on Monday to Thursday and from 5 PM to 10:30 PM on Friday and Saturday. Lunch times are from 11:30 AM to 2 PM. They are not opened for lunch on Saturday and are totally closed on Sundays. The closing time is a little misleading. The restaurant actually has a policy of taking last call 15 minutes before the posted closing time. Doors are locked at that time as well. It is recommended that you call in advance if you are running a little behind.

Nice Small Traditional Japanese Restaurant Hidden in Marietta My wife and I always love japanese food, especially sushi. Recommended by friend, so we gave it a try, and found it surprisingly great. Sushi is fresh, and the chef recommended the 'Shabu Shabu Steak', not the kind with soup, it's more like sizzling steak on hot plate. I love it :) considering I don't even like steak that much. Go try, it is worth the drive. [24 May 2006 16:22:35]

Hidden treasure Food quality and freshness is what you look for when you dine in a Japanese resturant. It is the selection of the fish that determines the quality. The owner and chefs are both Japanese which means it is done in the long traditional way it has been done for many years unlike many of the "immitation" Japanese resturants that is popping out everywhere in town. The freshness of the fish alone is enough for me to dine there again. [24 May 2006 16:27:04]

Bang for the Buck!!! Having eaten at several similar establishment (Benihana restaurants and the original Tokyo Lobby in Hacienda Heights, CA), Ege Sushi and Japanese Cuisine restaurant recieved the Bang for the Buck award on my list of favorite restaurants that I've been through out the greater Atlanta area.
We just ate there this past weekend (5/20/2006) while in Marietta. (Items ordered were the Spider Roll, Dragon Roll and the special chef's (Terry) Sushi mix platter and what ever Terry specially made for us ). The food itself was quite appropriately prepared and overall the taste was astounding.
Needless to say, I've enjoyed my dining experience here and will return in the near future, perhaps this weekend. [24 May 2006 16:48:35]

Delicious Food The food is so good and you have to give it a try. It's a cozy restaurant but with good taste of food. I have been there for several times and like the Chef’s Grill Saba a lot. Price is reasonable and services are friendly. [25 May 2006 14:11:12]

Simply the best This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Atlanta. This restaurant is tucked away in an area where you wouldn't think such a restaurant exists. The service was excellent, the sushi was extremely fresh and the menu items were pretty good as well. Prices are pretty typical for ATL, but very worth it if you want authentic Japanese cuisine.

WE LOVE THIS PLACE My husband and I go to this place weekly for dinner and I pick up an order for my wk lunch..... :) We live in walking distance and the atmosphere is wonderful......addicting. All employees are wonderful, friendly, talkative, professional.....they remember you and your family. Shortly my husband and I moved to Kennesaw :( but I made sure to find a route to and from wk for easy access for wk lunch and take out dinner. I would rather drive from Kennesaw to enjoy the company and WONDERFUL food than to order delivery from any other place. This place is a must. If you have not eaten here you missed out on a wonderful experience. [16 Jan 2007 18:23:30]
