Great Homestyle Japanese Food Umezono is often overlooked because it is not one of the usual haunts of local Japanese businessmen. Hidden in a tiny stripmall, unpretentious Umezono is usually crowded evenly with Japanese families and young people looking for a simple night out.
Their menu is very extensive, and the sushi bar is excellent. However, this is homestyle Japanese food, not Oriental Fusion or an LA exotic sushi extreme experience. Be prepared for simple, inexpensive dishes at great prices.
They offer tables, Japanese-style booths, and traditional tatami rooms for large parties. The place is small and busy, but still somehow cozy and comfortable. [08 Jan 2001 18:16:18]

Trip to Japan If you are looking for the real deal, this is IT! This is my favorite place to eat out. It is like going to Japan for an hour. [24 Jan 2003 13:41:38]

Stay Away! I've been going to Umezono for quite a while, and loved the food and the price; everything was right and I’ve even taken friends there to get them into sushi. On a Sunday in early 2003 a friend and I went there - we ordered a "take" and "matsu" combo as usual and where ready to enjoy our meal. Then we had to discover a tiny worm on one of the sushi. It was disgusting. The waitress claimed to have never seen something like that before and she couldn’t tell me what it was (If you work at a sushi restaurant, shouldn’t you know this stuff? Are they hiding something?). We where promised a free meal, but then they still brought us a check for the "take combo" and we had to remind them of what had happened and they finally gave us the entire meal for free. Well, I’m staying away for sushi for a while. I will definitely not eat sushi at Umezono again. [03 Feb 2003 08:32:50]

Umezono a no no in my book On my last and final visit to this place, the waitress had me sit and wait while she sat 7 to ten tables ahead of me. I waited for 30 minutes before I decided to leave. When my husband returned, I told him we should go and the server said, "Thank you, have a nice day." I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The customer service is very poor. Best Traditional Sushi in Metro Atlanta This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in metro Atlanta. I have been eating here since they opened - probably ten or twelve years ago. I usually order a Chef's Choice Sushi Assortment, but have also enjoyed many other traditional dishes. [28 Mar 2004 18:30:42]

98 on Health inspection score This restaurant received a Passing 98 on it's most recent health inspection on 8/9/2004 according to Cobb County.
I have been to this restaurant many times and have always enjoyed great food. I usually get the lunch combo which comes with miso soup and a salad. It is more than enough and very well priced [22 Mar 2005 13:14:02]

Excellence in Japanese I've been going to this restaurant for about 12 years now, and it has yet to disappoint. If the service seems terse, just remember that it's the Japanese style of service. If you're looking for "real" Japanese food, this is it -- the real deal. [03 Jan 2006 13:47:28]

Good affordable sushi, but get there early or NO SUSHI FOR YOU! Can't beat the lunch combo special (sushi sashimi for $8.50 with tip). Plenty of other combos that even sushi gringos would enjoy IE. chicken teriyaki etc. Portions seem to vary with time (if you are lucky enough to be seated 1/2 hour before closing, don't expect a generous serving). Very busy most of the time. often closes early... they will even turn away a regular customer 15 min. before closing. Do not get a gift certificate... it expires in 30 days, and is for dinner ONLY. Always a pleasure I've been going to Umezono pretty regularly for 5 or 6 years now, and I don't think I've ever been dissapointed. It's always very busy, but that just shows how popular it is. The service can be a little brusque now and then, but the food is worth it. Very traditional dishes. On the lunch menu there's a kid section with pictures of the food, with engrish descriptions. At dinner, you're greeted with a warm towel and some sort of small, cold appetizer. This is my favorite Japanese restaurant, period. [25 Nov 2006 07:50:22]
