Have Always Enjoyed It
This is my favorite diner of all times. The food is delicious and better than most diner foods elsewhere. I have enjoyed their salmon sandwich (cooked to perfection, not dry), grilled eggplant burger (very tasty), salmon entree (the sauce on the salmon was excellent and delicate, not overwhelming), kimchee fried rice (heaps and heaps of delicious fried rice, definitely cannot finish in one sitting), and for late nights, try their saimin! My husband and I also enjoy their edamame appetizer. It's a little different from the way it's served at Japanese restaurants with a little touch of Korean spices and seasonings. All my other friends who have gone there also enjoy the food. And the service has always been excellent when we were there.    [09 Oct 2002 19:41:07]

Best Meal Ever
One of my best meals on my last trip to Honolulu. Parking is hard to find but there is a big lot behind the diner. Food was plentiful and tasty. Great homemade kim chee. The mahi burger was "onolicious." Service was the best. All in all, a great local flavor dining experience.    [16 Mar 2004 20:33:49]

Got Order Wrong 2/2 Times
Uncoordinated, clueless, flavorless. They gave me ketchup with my salad, and cheese after notifying them of an allergy to it. Overpriced. Frozen "freedom" fries. Nasty decor. Will this crappy chain go under?

Don't get the veggie sandwich or fish or any fries. $10 burger - worth it? Ten dollars?    [12 Apr 2004 17:34:53]

I'm Lovin It
So far I've tried their ribs, their calamari sticks, their famous burgers, Uncle Danny's fried rice, and the delicious brownie pie. I think they are the bomb!    [05 Sep 2004 02:03:34]

Good Stuff
I've had the ribs, a couple of the daily special fish dishes, kim chee fried rice and the burgers. All good. Staff is good and attentive, but not annoying. They're always good to my little niece and nephew - bonus points!    [19 Oct 2004 23:09:28]

No Ka Oi Comfort Station
This place kicks okole. An instant classic. I hope they can do in Ward what they've done in Kaimuki. You know when you go in it's a favorite, for locals and visitors alike, the place is packed with a mix of customers and comfortable for all. friendly service, excellent management. All-around favorite restaurant.    [25 Dec 2004 16:26:53]

Big City Is a Big Hit
I want to add my kudos to the others who love Big City Diner. The one pan I read is not typical of the normally great service. He must have had a bad day. Sure, the decor isn't 5*, but it's fun and funky. The food is consistently good and the place is often busy, so a lot of people are choosing Big City over lots of other choices in the area.    [11 Aug 2005 18:07:38]
