Description
Boots & Kimo's Homestyle Kitchen
The catchy name of this restaurant commemorates the long-held dream of Rick and Jesse Kiakona's late father "Boots" to open a restaurant, and the assistance of their late uncle, Kimo, who was head chef and helped them get started in 1994. The folksy plate lunches here include the standards with Hawaiian-style pulehu ribs as the signature dish at lunch, with Uncle Kimo's famous pancakes with macadamia sauce a big seller at breakfast. Inexpensive, with lots of aloha. — Honolulu Advertiser

To Die For! best describes Boots and Kimo's fabulous Macadamia Nut Pancakes. If you are near, don't miss this! [21 Jul 2003 00:05:12]

Best Breakfast in Oahu! 2nd best sit-down, non-buffet breakfast I have had. Get the macadamia nut pancakes with bananas and the vegetarian omelet (with sweet jalapenos-not hot). Unbelievable! (The first best was in Kauai which we discovered a week later. Don't remember the name.) [21 Sep 2003 15:47:34]

WORST SERVICE IN KAILUA 1/6/04. Five of us went for breakfast. Got in around 9.10 minutes later orders placed. 10 minutes later, Portuguese omelet arrives. 10 minutes later Macadamia pancake. 10 minutes later Maui omelet. 10 minutes later eggs benedict. Finally, 10 minutes later, Pulehu ribs. It was amazing that our table seemed to be on the hind end of getting our food. No other restaurant in Kailua would DARE to serve a table piecemeal. Just Stay Away - Cheerios on the beach would be better. Hard to give stars for this place. We LOVED our waitress - polite, attentive, friendly, fast (granted, she had just 2 tables at our early breakfast). My side of bacon (ugly looking stuff) tasted distinctly of fish. My French toast was fine, but mere parsley sprig with it - not even a tiny wedge of pineapple or the like. My husband's pancakes with a macadamia nut sauce (just a cream poured over it really) was fine, but he said it was almost too sweet. Okay though. We he ordered orange juice, he was told that the person with the key to unlock the fridge where the o.j. was kept wasn't there yet. However, when she did arrive, we weren't offered o.j. (too late really). Then we wanted to pay with a traveller's check - which is the same as cash, NOT a check. Everyone knows that. But, it was refused. We nicely said "but it's the same as cash," the manager (?) never apologized, NEVER looked away from what she was doing, and still refused. VERY cold, rude. He didn't want to leave a tip at all, but since our waitress was the only good thing, I wanted to leave something for her. Perhaps locals get better treatment (?), but we strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. [02 Feb 2004 18:26:57]

Good food, Not so good service. First of all, this place is expensive. 6.50 for 3 pancakes, about 9 bucks for an omelette. There are only about 10 tables here so always expect a wait. I finally got my coffee about 10 minutes into my meal. Good coffee though. The staff here seemed to be more concerned with the loud hip hop music (too early in the morning for this), than taking care of customers. Poor service, decent food. [21 Nov 2004 05:13:12]

Worst ever service I have seen in my life I remenber one year we came and I recall our waitress was Lehua and Crystal, because we have a picture taken with them, but the service now is terrible, not because of them, they wasn't there. However the waitresses they have now are rude, cold, no personality, and just plain cocky. [20 Jan 2005 21:13:20]

Boot's & Kimo's I don't know where you people have been eating but Boot's & Kimo's is the greatest place I had a chance to eat at. The food doesn't take that long to come out the most 20 minutes for the entire table of four to receive their dishes. The service is remarkable, the waitress is very polite and the management is open-minded to making your meal enjoyable. They have aloha and you feel a part of the family. Also their Mac Nut Pancake is a special made sauce that runs in their family, and it ain't sweet it is so worth the wait in line or for the food. Also they do not treat anyone different. They treat locals, and tourist the same with patience and respect so please don't judge the place before you have a chance to go and eat there yourself and then make your own decision. Everybody has their own response. So go and try it out it's a great place....

Very Rude Born and raised in Kailua but had moved away. My husband and I are Hawaiian, not da kine ha'ole eitha. We heard about it when it first opened and checked it out. 1st few time (3 or 4) it was a good experience. As mentioned earlier the waitresses are pleasant. The fat old mama kine manager is a piece though. Her son looks like da cook and both of them have ATTITUDE!! They provided healthy portions, no wonda dey so momona and ono kine food but I asked that fat old lady if she could tell me what was in the mac syrup and she goes "No das one secret!". They are just ugly people and we haven't been back since. Their pancakes ain't so good anyways, I found coconut syrup which is moa betta. [03 Feb 2005 09:40:45]

Fantastic Food - Below average service Macadamia nut sauce is awesome on Pancakes and French Toast. It is sweet though, kind of like a runny frosting. The place is small, so you would expect decent service, but not so. They are quick to take your order and give you the bill, but try to get more coffee, good luck. [24 Feb 2005 15:51:45]

Terrible place to go Please don't waste your time there. The pancakes were mediocre, and the mac sauce was nothing to write home about. I live in Hawaii and would not even think twice about returning to that place. The employees, especially the cashier, have a terrible attitude and very disrespectful. I got chewed out for asking how long the wait would be. Our party of 8 had to wait too long for our food, and the staff there all need to get their attitudes checked. [19 Jul 2005 07:07:53]
