one of the worst dining experiences ever On our last trip to Maui, my husband and I dined here. We had heard such rave reviews re the food, location, and service, we were looking forward to a lovely evening. What a letdown! To be fair, the food and location were outstanding, but this was overshadowed service so offensively poor, it seemed deliberate. We arrived at the restaurant early in the evening. In fact we were the first ones there. We were seated by a young woman who took our drink orders and then disappeared. By that I mean we did not see her again for the rest of the evening. Other guests arrived and were seated. After about 20 minutes we noticed these other folks were receiving their drinks (ours were still nowhere to be seen). There was a man in an aloha shirt greeting people and taking orders, but when my husband tried to get his attention, he looked away. I'm not joking! We finally did get someone to bring our drinks, but no one came over to take our dinner orders. By this time, some of the folks who arrived after us were enjoying their meals, while we were sitting there, ignored. Finally, my husband got up and spoke to the man in the aloha shirt who came to our table and inquired, blank-faced (once again, I'm not joking) "How can I help you?" He grudgingly brought us menus and took our order. The meal was actually quite good, but I still left with a bad taste in my mouth. The service for the rest of the evening was diffident at best. The girl who served us dropped our entrees on the table and brought the check without asking us if we wanted dessert. Also, the bill was incorrect. I would like to mention, we were appropriately dressed and not the least bit overt in our behavior. This was particurly unpleasant because it was our last night on Maui, and we had been looking forward to a special evening. Someday I'll go back to Maui, but I'll never go back to Mama's [13 Mar 2002 14:11:21]

Montanan's favorite spot Just read the above critical review. These people must have offended someone. We have eaten at Mama's every time we go to Maui. Same great service, same great drinks, same great food. Trying kicking back and smiling at the Hawaiians, it helps. [13 May 2002 19:32:53]

Absolutely The Best Seafood We Have Ever Had On our last trip to Maui(June-2001) my wife and I dined at Mama's for lunch twice. We had never eaten there before. Believe me when I say I am pretty frugal when it comes to spending a lot of money for lunch but the $80-$90 price tag for the delicious lunch we had both times was WELL worth it. The food, the ambiance, the breeze from the almost unreal setting, and last but not least the service and attention we received was the best. We will always go back to Mama's for lunch or dinner whenever we are in Maui in the future and highly recommend it to anyone. Even if you don't plan to eat there you should just go look at the place and see the setting and take a look at the unbelievable flower arrangements inside... [04 Jul 2002 00:21:24]

WHAT A FIND! My wife and I just happened upon Mama's Fish House and made reservations for dinner. We went and had a wonderful time and the food and drink were terrific. Was the best and most romantic dinner we had on the Island and we will go back if and when we are ever back on Maui. [19 Sep 2002 17:44:03]

Romantic My husband and I came across Mama's Fish House years ago while site seeing. We had never heard of Mama's Fish House but were taken by the view. We made our reservations and must say it is our most memorable evenings out ever. The food was fabulous, the view....well it speaks for itself and the service was unforgetable. We are looking at booking our tickets to go to Maui again just so we can visit Mama's Fish House once more. Thanks for the great time!! [02 Oct 2002 00:37:25]

This place rocks!!! In my 5 trips to Maui, all have at least had a dinner or lunch at Mama's. The food and location are ideal for some R&R. It gets a little busy of course, but I have never been disappointed! Seafood gets thrown out after 12 hours to keep it fresh and it is! I will continue to go to Mama's till the day I die... Best Restaurant on Maui Mama's is last real tradition Hawaiian restaurant on Maui and it's amazing. The location, atmosphere, food....it's all amazing. I must admitt that a few times that I've been there, it has been very noisy, but all-in-all I've always really enjoyed my evening. They have a macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi that is stuffed with lobster and crab that is out of this world. Reservations are definiately recommended. [06 Feb 2003 16:08:35]

Greatest Seafood/Service Ever Experience I was very impressed with the restaurant's decor, atmosphere, and quality service provided by the employees and of course the food was unsurpassed~~mahimahi stuffed with crab and lobster was absolutely wonderful!! I will definitely visit again, both the island and Mama's. It has so much to offer and the views in the area are awesome!! A memory that will stay with me a long, long time! So keep up the good work! Awesome!! Absolutely the best meal we've ever had. Everything was perfect...the incredibly romantic atmosphere, the "Aloha" spirit of the staff...and the food - OMG - to die for!! We'll definitely be going back to Maui and Mama's will be our first stop for dinner. YUMMY! [07 Mar 2003 09:35:05]

Delisioso !!! A friend and I braved the dark roads in January for the hour long drive from Kaanapali to Mama's. It was worth every hair raising turn. The service was impeccable and the food absolutely delicious! I especially liked the Hawaiiana decor. [22 May 2003 18:32:15]
