The Best What a wonderful place with the decor, the music, the great service, and feeling so welcomed, and of course the greatest food on earth, what more could a person ask for? [22 Dec 2001 14:11:06]

YUM YUM The best part about moving to Iowa from the city is The Brick Haus. The Brick Haus has the best wait staff, the best food served family style and the absolute best pies (including my favorite German fruit). Thank You Walter (the owner) for giving me something to look forward to when going to Iowa City. [17 Dec 2003 11:37:41]

YUCK The breakfast on Saturday was bad for the money, $9 a plate. The bacon has grease in the bottom of the plate. They served only peach jelly, but what about other people who like other types? The eggs were fried, but you were not told that when you ordered. [04 Apr 2006 13:33:58]

Very, very disappointed Party of 6 had 45 minute after we were told it would be 15 minutes. Waited 15 minutes to have order taken, waiter acted disgusted when we requested refills of salad and bread (family style), half an hour before main courses served, everything was cold except chicken. Requests for refill of water and drinks ignored, even requests for bill ignored 3 times, only produced when we got up and they thought we would leave without paying!!! When voiced concerns with blonde manager at desk, we were treated with rudeness, anger, hostility and disdain. A huge disappointment, would never recommend, and will NEVER take out of state guests there again, or family back to this very unprofessional, unprepared for business restaurant!! After all these years? I look at these reviews and I wonder why all the complaints are anonymous. Moot point right? However, my son and I were traveling back to New Mexico from Michigan, got held up in traffic around the Chicago area (no surprise} and ended up in Amana rather than our targeted arrival into Des Moines. Best thing that ever happened to us. Got to stay at a very nice motel, had a good supper at one of the local restaurants and best of all got to, at the suggestion of my sister in Michigan, had an awesome breakfast at the Brick Haus. Can't think of one thing to compain about and can't imagine anyone else having any problems, not that I am particularly an authority but I damn sure know good food when I consume it. Can't wait to to get back and enjoy the hospitality and great people at the Brick Haus and other places in Amana. [25 Jan 2007 23:25:17]

Not So Good Anymore Visited on 08/24/08 approx 5:30 PM. Very slow/poor service. Lettuce salad was extremely wilted and rusted; bread was dry and seemed to be "day old" quality. Quality previously has always been way above par. Last two visits I have disappointed - this will be last visit. Out of raspberry pie on a Sunday evening by 5:30??? Pies are NOT made fresh you can tell its store bought crust and canned pie filling. Restaurant is dirty - bathroom filthy (women’s) and table clothes stained and had holes in them!
