Beware of What is Presented What you anticipate is not always what you get. On a return trip from the Iowa State Fair, we made a special effort to stop at the Ox Yoke Inn for supper. In anticipation of fine dining I regret to say we were greatly disappointed. The Walleye (special for Fridays) was grossly overcooked and could not be cut with a knife. The potatoes were quite a different story some still being raw. The service was a mixture of inter-personal battle field and I don't really care. Seems like the I-80 location has forgotten who the Customer is. It was the worst meal I have ever had at the Amanas. [19 Aug 2002 14:12:59]

Very poor food My wife and I stopped at the Ox Yoke Inn on Saturday evening for supper. We had a very unpleasant experence. Our cottage cheese and cold slaw had set out most of the afternoon as they were both warm. The rolls were not warm. The mashed potatoes were not hot. The gravy was not hot and not homemade. The corn was luke warm the only thing that was ok was the ice tea. The chicken was over cooked. Their prices was twice what the food was worth I wish I had eaten at McDonald's. [16 Aug 2003 22:51:52]

A disappointment I wish I had stayed home. My entree was cold and my husband's was not fully cooked. I even had indigestion afterwards. I can't believe the price we paid for such a dismal meal. [10 Jun 2005 23:52:10]

Good Experience Had dinner last night - all side dishes were very good. Entree's were chicken schnitzel and jager schnitzel, both were cooked properly and tasted wonderful. Banana cream pie was excellent. [09 Jul 2007 17:01:42]

Good Food First we always go to the Ox Yoke downtown Amanas, not I-80, I always found the original one better. Have always had good food. 2 years ago the service was atrocious from the host-cashier that also happened to be the owner that day. (It was extremely busy that day) Changing posted menu prices on the wine, rude etc etc. I wrote the owner and he made it right and encouraged us to come back. We have twice and the service was much improved with some of the same people. We usually have a nice waiter/tress. I always get the knockwurst/bratwurst. Today the potatoes were a little too whipped, but we like the room temp coleslaw and cottage cheese, all other food was hot. Always love their food and is our favorite rest. to go to in the Amanas. And love their seasoning salt and cranberry wine, or the Lovers Wine, Plum/Cranberry. [06 Aug 2007 17:25:26]

What Planet Are You People From? The Ox Yoke Inn in Amana,Iowa is excellent! One of our favorite places in the world to dine. The cottage cheese and coleslaw is worth the price of a meal. Not to mention the fantastic real mashed potatoes and gravy and real sweet corn. I actually have spent more at Mcdonalds for the fake crap they call food! Obviously you have not tried the baked steak or the chicken or the great German entrees. [15 Nov 2007 16:22:58]

Best Honey Apple Pork Chops. On a recent visit to the Amanas we ate at the Ox Yoke Inn. I had the honey apple pork chop which was delicious. The service was fast and friendly. The cottage cheese is a long time favorites, along with the real mashed potatoes. The rhubarb custard pie with struesel topping was the perfect end to a perfect meal. [07 Aug 2008 12:48:01]
