The absolute best place to eat in Ames I have been to The Spice MANY times, too many to count since it opened and I have nothing but fabulous things to say. The atmosphere is great, the staff is wonderful, and the food is the BEST!! The Spice is always my first choice. A++++ [02 Sep 2006 19:41:14]

A big town restaurant in a small town The service is above average, the ambiance is quite relaxing and the plates are sensational...The most exciting thing about eating at the Thai Spice is that the food has an ethnic richness, all the flavors are authentic, the vegetables are fresh and nothing tastes overly salty, bland or americanized. Our visits now number in the double digits--heading toward 20! Thank you for coming to Ames! [12 Jan 2007 15:40:27]

The Spice spices up Iowa The food is delectable. A great variety of real Thai food, healthy, with good selections for non-spice lovers and vegetarians. We eat there frequently, and always enjoy it. Try the Tom Yum soup, and Pad Cha Talai. Desserts include elegant chocolate and fruit concoctions, and my favorite, a Thai dish, Mango Sticky Rice. The management and many of the servers are Thai. The service is Mid-west friendly. The atmosphere is a pleasant hybrid. and it also compares well with restaurants in San Fransisco, Chicago, and New York. My first choice for out-of-town colleagues and friends. Easily my favorite place to dine in Ames, [04 Feb 2007 17:54:31]

Vegetarians must be careful I have been twice, ordered off the vegetarian menu, asked for my meal to be spicy, but neither time was it spicy, nor did it taste vegetarian (they had a fishy yet bland taste to them). The waiter was nice enough to mention that most of the desserts contain gelatin.

Good Food-Poor Service I love the food at The Spice, however, the service leaves a lot to be desired! My boyfriend and I went here a few months ago and were seated in about 10 minutes even though the place wasn't even near full. Once we were seated we were handed menus and then no one returned to take our order, not even for the drinks.. So after about 30 minutes of this we just got up and left. Needless to say we weren't too happy. Even though the service is poor, the food is worth the wait. [23 May 2007 12:27:27]
