Saturday Evening, November 4, 2006 Food: Scallops and Asparagus in Cream Sauce - dull, no flavor, though presentation was nice. Shrimp Scampi - same, dull, no flavor. Only hint of garlic. Watery plain sauce. Not at all what you imagine as scampi. The shrimp were large and the angel hair pasta cooked to perfection. The dish was otherwise boring.
My merlot (the house) was vinegary tasting, though the second glass was good.
Our salads were unremarkable. My husband had the Caeser. He commented it was bland. I ordered the Tremont salad assuming the house dressing would be on it. (I wasn't asked about dressing choice.) If there was dressing on it, I didn't taste it.
Service - impeccable. Our waitress was very good (except for not noting my salad dressing.)
Ambiance - always very nice and relaxing. We love the ambiance particularly. Marshalltown is very fortunate to have this type of restaurant, and my husband I will continue to frequent, only because we have had some very excellent meals in the past. But lately it seems like the chef prefers bland flavors or no flavor at all.
Overall, we aren't giving up on the Tremont. Marshalltonians must continue to support our businesses, or they won't be here any more. The Tremont has proven itself in the past, but it still has great potential!
When clients come in and want the whole package, they come in full willing to pay for that package. A poor tasting meal can make it feel like hard-earned money wasted and a much-looked-forward-to evening with the one you love, less than what you'd hoped.
Thank you. [06 Nov 2006 10:34:23]
