As a bright sunny start to the day, begin with Shorty's Shorty's corner location on main street offers guests a beautiful view of the mountains. This bright clean diner quickly reminds you why this part of the world is so special. While there are some of the Elvis and James Dean photos on the walls it is tastily done so as not to drown out the stainless of the open kitchen and stunning mountain views.
We had arrived for breakfast and there was plenty of that offered. This is simple breakfast fare done to order and arrives hot and fast. While my colleague ordered eggs scrambled, bacon, hash browns and sourdough toast, the corn cakes caught my eye. I felt this would be a true test of Shorty's attention to detail. If not in proper proportions you can easily end up with a cornmeal Frisbee.
Our plates came up in a timely manner hot from the grill. The eggs were nicely done, potatoes golden and crisp outside accompanied with a side of bacon. As I had hoped, the corn cakes were delightful - crisp outside with that enjoyable crunch of the cornmeal in the fluffy center. I had ordered sausage patties and they accompanied the corn cakes very well. This was a hit and so much so that when I had the opportunity to do it over a week later, I could not distract myself to pass it up. That's two times at bat and twice out of the park.
Shorty's is a must and a great way to start the day. [19 Aug 2007 18:28:29]
