Absolutely Terrific! Best in the NW! This is a unique restaurant in that it sitting in the trees near the lake -- but the best part is that the food and [presentation give rival to any restaurant in San Francisco. Wines you don't normally find and elegant service. [21 Jun 2003 21:04:56]

What a find After moving to the Spokane area from Seattle we were concerned about finding good restaurant's that were not chains. We were told about the Chef in the Forest and decided to try it. The service is wonderful, the food exceptional and the setting is truly romantic. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is better than any restaurant that I have been to, including Seattle. [09 Oct 2004 16:25:52]

Where to Go! I have frequented Chef in the Forest 4-6 times. On all occasions they have provided superior service and exquisitely tasteful dishes. They are excellent for family and date occasions. I am happy that I discovered this establishment. They are not only a bargain but a pleasurable experience. [07 May 2006 18:09:42]

Its been sold! Its not the same place let me warn YOU! I didn't know it changed hands and let me tell you,... I just had the worst dining experience imaginable!! I was excited all day for this meal. Appetizers were ok. Blue Cheese salad dressing was like watered down ranch? My seafood plate I endured only 2 bites as the lobster was like jelly!! It was crab legs sticking out of a bowl of like...beef broth!! Horrendous. Sent that back and ordeded [sic] steak as you cant mess that up?? Ha!!! It was a horrible pepper steak and so I didn't eat that either...The wifes duck was tough and covered with a cheap can of some horrible fruit junk?? We drank the good wine and left. All we could do was laugh and vow to open our own place! TRUE STORY! [19 Feb 2007 12:13:19]

Not the fine place it once was This place was sold a few years back. Worst service ever. The server did not know how to open wine and splashed it all over my wife. He just smiled and said thats the way it goes sometimes . The food was so so. The wine prices are a total rip off.
We went over 20 times a year when the old owner had it.It WAS a great place I will never go back. Its a Joke now [04 Oct 2007 23:50:13]

What's wrong with this picture???? I have dined at this restaurant 10-12 times myself and everything has been as expected from a high class restaurant. The food, service and ambiance is second to none. It's gorgeous out there, the setting is in a forested area half a block from the lake shore. Presently the lake is covered in ice and breathtaking to look at. Yes the place was sold, but over two years ago and is better than ever. [17 Dec 2007 17:49:04]

Sad Loss We have eaten at Chef in The Forest many times, but after a 4 yr absence we ate there this weekend and were more than disappointed. The food was bland - inedible really - and the drinks were horrible. Nothing was worth the calories and definitely not the prices. What used to be one of our favorite restaurants has sadly been reduced to a place with absolutely no redeeming value. [12 May 2008 16:03:45]
