Best Food In The Area The Moscow/Pullman area has very few dining options, and the majority of them are very mediocre. The Red Door on the other hand seems very out of place in this area, because it isn't just good for Moscow/Pullman, it would be an excellent restaurant anywhere.
The ambiance is a bit too casual for a formal dining experience, but the quality of the food is top notch. The restaurant has a very playful feel, and makes for a great place to eat with friends.
Don't miss out on their desserts, because they are some of the best anywhere. [21 Feb 2004 20:00:37]

YUMMMy!!! Not only was the food INCREDIBLE, but the staff was so very nice and helpful. It is clear that the chef knows what he is doing--every course, from the Goat Cheese/tapenade to the beef tenderloin was fantastic. The mashed potatoes were the best I had had in quite some time. Highly recommended. [09 Nov 2004 04:22:44]

Horrible Service We've eaten there several times before and the food was good; however, the service has gotten progressively worse with each visit. Last night the service was nonexistant, literally. After being seated, we were totally ignored by the staff. After 20 minutes of failing to hail anyone on staff, we left. [17 Dec 2005 15:42:23]

The atmosphere is peaceful though a bit cluttered for my personal taste. The antique oak and leather waiting couch is oddly offset by the fast food restaraunt like booths in the back. I mean honestly booths in a restaraunt trying to be this fancy? A serious no no. The food however is wonderful, especially for this region. There's no place that even comes close to it's rich flavorful dishes.
It is a shame that the staff are so horrible. Unless it's a slow night you'll literally have to trip a waiter to get their attention. It appears in 2004 the service was good but being a college town and considering the expected turnover of staff it appears management has slacked off as of late. [11 Jan 2006 03:18:08]

A Great Slow Food Experience What a find! The type of slow food fine dining experience one expects to find in Seattle or Portland, but Moscow, Idaho? I've eaten here several times and have been blown away by the food each time. The wine list is extensive and affordable. The servers are experienced and attentive. A bit loud sometimes, but the lively causal atmosphere seems to make it work. [26 Feb 2006 23:19:18]

Red door blows The food was terrible. The Feta was good but the presentation looked like a four year old plated it. The Oregano was black and wilted. The Quail with the lamb sausage was good but the sauce was terrible. The quails were slopped on the plate and looked like they had been laughed out in the sun for days and bloated. The menu totally lacks imagination and any kind of flare.
Our server was also very novice in the wine department. The wine he recommended clashed with our meal and his horrid table presence through off the whole experience. He was very pushy and seemed irritated with our indecision. [25 Feb 2007 23:30:24]

Ahi While normally a great experience, I had trouble ordering the seared Ahi. It first came out overcooked, hardly any color at all in the center, and the second time it came out with the inside still literally frozen in places. Needless to say, I didn't feel like my dinner was worth it. Make sure you specify how you want your food prepared! [26 Feb 2007 21:31:56]

Great food I've dined here many many times over the past six years. The food has overall been fantastic. The service changes from year to year with the college server turnover but mostly it is quite satisfactory. The Red Door is a real jewel. For the price you can't beat the wine or food selection. New Owners New Menu I'd dined at the red door many times. I've always recieved the best of attention, with the exception of certain trainees that eventually either got up to snuff or got out of the business, and the food had always been prepared with care and precision and flavor. It has this month come under new ownership and has an entirely new menu. All of the dishes I enjoyed have been stricken from the ledger. I'd felt a little shocked by the transition but I guess I can learn to live without beef carpacio, and that delightful goat cheese and tapanade. Though I've always considered the beef tar tar to be carpacio's idiot cousin in much the way that sloppy joes are to a porterhouse steak. I'll have to give the new menu a field test the last time I was there I got some very bad nan bread but they still carry chimay in large bottles so a return visit is in order if they don't live up to my standards on my next visit there is always Nectar down the way. I'll base my scoring on a general past experience as one bad meal does not a bad restaurant make. But two in a row I'll write something more scathing. [26 Jan 2008 20:13:20]
