Family Run Restaurant Provides Family Warmth and Superior Quality with Low Prices! After a long run of so-so and so-bad experiences trying to find a quality Mexican restaurant here in West ChicagoLand, my wife and I decided to give "Cafe Cancun" a try.
What a Joy! Everything is made fresh to order. Everything is authentic! Nothing on the menu has disappointed, and I have finally tried nearly every dish. This has taken me over 20 visits and I've had the fortune of being able to sample my wife's selections or else it would take another 20.
Even in California, where I lived 5 years ago, I am unable to find food as good.
My rule of thumb for judging Mexican restaurants is the quality and quantity of seafood on the menu. This is why I tried the restaurant in the first place. "A place named 'Cafe Cancun' had better have good seafood," I said. They were even better than I hoped!
They make a shrimp burrito which beats the best I can find in Santa Cruz. Not only that, but it is bigger and cheaper too!
Every time I order a dish it is 50% bigger than I expected. But it is so good that I always clean my plate.
The lunch menu is my special favorite. For less than $8 I always leave over-full and over-happy.
Friday and Saturday nights the Cafe has live music - a guitar playing and singing troubador who wanders from table to table. My 2 year old daughter had the best time of her life listening and clapping to Malegena, "Oje Como Va!", and "Light My Fire" just to name a few.
After 9 o'clock on Friday and Saturday the troubador retires and a disk-jockey takes over for a salsa dance party! I usually have a hard time convincing my wife to dance. She is usually too timid. Here the fiesta is infectious!
I applaud this restaurant for serving the best food, ambiance and overall experience in all of Chicago. [17 Jan 2003 10:21:20]

Friendliest Bar in Town I went to Cafe Cancun after work at the urging of my friend Darren. He went on and on about the great food and I have to agree that the food is excellent.
But more to my taste was the warmth and sense of family in the cantina. Over chips and beer Darren and I spent almost 4 hours talking and laughing with Theresa our bartender. Darren tells me that he usually eats his meals either at the bar or a table in the cantina just because of the good company.
Now after googling "cafe cancun batavia" I find that ChefMoz already knows all about it.
All I can do is add my voice to the choir. I'm looking forward to trying out the weekend music. Not my usual speed, but if today is any indication, I'm in for a fun night. [30 Dec 2004 22:41:21]

Great Mexican Restaurant It is our pleasure to recommend this restaurant to every couple who, like us, has a weekly "date night". We have been frequent customers for the past two years, and can honestly express that we have never been disappointed with the food or service. We have found Cafe Cancun to be the best Mexican restaurant in the west suburbs.
Whether we just drop into the bar area for a tasty on-tap Mexican beer or freshly made margarita at happy hour, or if we want a complete sit down meal in the dining area, the owner (Theresa) always takes the time to say hello, and typically will sit with us to talk awhile. Actually, it seems every customer is known on a first name basis.
The minute you walk in the door, you will be greeted with a friendly smile, and when you are seated, you will be served with a basket of tortilla chips and freshly prepared salsa. You can order any of the dozens of appetizers or meals from the menu, and it will be way more than you were expecting. If you want a dish that is not on the menu, don't be afraid to ask. The kitchen staff are very accommodating.
Though it may not look like it from the outside, the restaurant is quite large and spacious. There is no fear of getting bumped by other customers or of backing your chair into other tables. Every part of the restaurant is spotless, including the bathrooms. Also, parking is a breeze.
The restaurant is located across from the Batavia City Hall complex, next to the Fox River, and if you visit in the summer, consider taking an after dinner walk along the Riverwalk. It seems there is always some festival or another going on. There is even an antique car club that meets nearby on Fridays. [19 Jan 2005 17:44:09]
