My family visited this great place and had a fantastic time. Our waitress was super nice and wanted to please us. (Lisa R.) We did have one issue: we ordered a crabcake appetizer and paid for a dinner. Not a huge problem but when paying ala carte for things we thought came with the meal plus a charge for a dinner instead of an appetizer (yes our fault for not noticing the dinner charge) we were taken aback a bit. We live in Indiana and will probably try again. [19 Aug 2003 22:02:28]

Overpriced - Overrated We have gone to this restaurant on numerous occasions for lunch and have been very pleased, even though it is a tad more than we usually spend on a lunch. Because of the unique atmosphere and the good food we've had, we made reservations for Christmas Eve for our family of 16 in 2000. We were so disappointed. The service was terrible, the food was terrible, the steaks were overpriced and overcooked. The vegetables with my mother's fish were so salty they were inedible.
Okay, I work in the business, so I know that everyone has an off night. We decided to try again in 2001. Same table, same lousy service, same prices (that was no surprise). Unfortunately, it was not a one-time thing with the food. Again, way overcooked and hard to pay the prices they are asking for quality and creativity I could get at Applebees, or Denny's, for that matter.
We did not go back this year, and will most likely never return again, even for lunch. There is too much competition in the Fox Valley area for this place to not give 100% every time. [05 Jan 2003 20:11:19]

Good in '97 but What Happened? Started going to this restaurant in '97 when we moved here...it was excellent - selection, service and quality. Something happened by 2000 and the place hasn't recovered. It's a little bit better now but no where near its potential. Overpriced for what you get and inconsistent at best. [03 May 2003 13:03:43]

Mango and Habanero Swordfish I was at Key Wester with my family and had their special mango and habaƱero swordfish. Dinner was awesome by all. We will all be back soon. Also Suzanne the server was outstanding. [28 Jul 2003 16:42:23]

What Can I Say Overrated, just a bit above Red Lobster if you eat there. I prefer not to. It is a good time--the atmosphere is really nice. Service is good. Food is nothing special. It's a nice meal on a Wednesday night. Don't take your date here. The bar is happening--fun to party in. Try it. [07 Jun 2004 17:24:37]

Great Restaurant We've been there three times, and the food just gets better and better. The atmosphere is lovely, an escape to the tropics in the middle of suburban Chicago. It's a popular restaurant so on weekends there's a wait even with reservations. But the food makes it worth waiting for. The salad is a la carte, and I wish it were included. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, and the extras add up quickly. [Review originally submitted 05 Oct 2003.] [07 Nov 2005 11:10:57]

Expensive Price for Lots of Salt Mediocre fish at a premium price. When the $24 grouper was sent back for being too salty, the next plate was brought with the fish ok, but the chef decided to let me know what he thought by putting so much salt on the vegetables that they were not edible. Nice for such a fancy place, eh? OK calamari - good kids' fish sticks. My 8 year old daughter loved the tropical room. Good service. But what's the point? You'll do as well for half the price; even better if the cook is not trying to get even with you. [09 Jan 2007 13:23:43]
