Description

The "Spoon" is a Bloomington landmark. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at very reasonable prices. Homemade desserts are available until they sell out. The Runcible Spoon has been open more than 25 years and roasts its own coffee beans on site. Specialty coffee drinks and tea are available in wide variety.

Great Pleace
Runcible Spoon is a great place. When I want to relax I go there and have some coffee. When you are there you will find someone to talk with and you will enjoy that.    [10 May 2004 04:26:20]

Well, it's not clean, but...
You gotta like the ambiance. Still, I think it would be nice if they would TRY to be a little more hygienic. I've had waitresses go from picking up dirty dishes to refilling your coffee and assembling plates of food (shudder). But I do LIKE the food, nonetheless, and my parents love it when they come to visit--this is always a must-stop place for breakfast. Never been here for dinner. The staff can be downright unhelpful and negligent, but it's kind of part of the gig.    [03 Sep 2004 23:52:39]

I love "the Runcible." It's laid back and bohemian. The coffee is great, the fresh fruit pancakes are even better. I make everyone I know go there when they're headed to Bloomington. And as for the service, I've never been there when it wasn't very busy, so you might have to wait a little while. But if you want quick, then get fast food. Otherwise, take your time and enjoy the atmosphere. There's plenty to look at. Just check out the women's restroom! It's a trip!    [20 May 2006 17:16:46]

Gotta agree with other reviewers: this is a setting for a health inspector's nightmare. If you're not squeamish, it's pleasant enough. The food quality varies, but can be very enjoyable. I like eating outside here in the autumn. Service is, well, leisurely, but friendly.    [12 Sep 2007 21:08:11]
