Hidden Treasure in Boonville This small restaurant was a delight to come across located upstairs in the Village Mercantile Shop in Boonville, IN. You order at the counter and a very friendly man takes your order and welcomes you if you are a first time visitor, suggests the Shaker tomato pie which I agreed to and it was excellent. My husband got the chicken salad on a roll which was also good but the tomato pie was exceptionally good. They also have many salads to go with the entrees and many homemade cakes for dessert.
The seating area is small but clean, and quilt pieces are put on the table from the Quilt shop downstairs. If you should ever want a surprise eatery go to Victoria's Tea Room from 11-2 Tuesday thru Saturdays. And get there early because a lot of items were already gone at 12:30 because it's so popular. A definite repeat-eatery! The decor and quaintness of the restaurant are unmatched. And the food - homemade - was wonderful! I had the chicken salad with focaccia bread, along with 2 sides - Italian broccoli salad and potato bacon soup. Excellent, all of it. (And I tried the tomato pie my friend ordered - I'm getting that next time!)
For dessert I had the "Chocolate Chocolate" - a triple layer chocolate cake, which was rich and perfect. (There were also coconut, strawberry, Italian creme, carrot, raspberry walnut, and many other cakes.)
The gentleman behind the counter makes many of the dishes himself, and most are either family favorites or recipes customers have passed on to him. His wife runs the shop downstairs, which is a quilter's heaven. My only concern - I didn't see an elevator for handicapped visitors, which would make the restaurant a hardship, if not impossible.
