Reviews review it add a link Historic mansion open to diners - Northwest Indiana News, BY MELANIE CSEPIGA, 10 January 2006; The one-block, historic downtown district is now home to a fourth dining establishment with the opening of The Bacon Mansion, 427 E. Commercial Ave. "We've had a good response. People love the house, and they tell us all kinds of stories. I think a lot of those who come here left a part of them here, and they're back for a visit," co-owner and chef Rhonda Bloch said of the mansion built by Dr. E.R. Bacon in 1860 after he settled in Lowell following the Civil War. Bloch said diners come from not only Lowell, but Crown Point and DeMotte, as well as nearby Illinois communities for her eclectic offerings that are made to order featuring all fresh ingredients. The main floor, which seats 90, features three separate dining rooms. Upstairs rooms are home to five shops whose merchants lease the spaces. Bloch said the eatery's capacity will increase to 200 during fair weather months when alfresco dining will be offered in three levels of three garden areas. A seasonal ice cream parlor also is planned. - suggest change
