Owned by Tom McVey, co-owner of Dick's Restaurant in St. John, and run by his son, Mike McVey and daughter-in-law, Natalie, McVey's Restaurant & Bar opened in September, 2006 in the space formerly occupied by the Stork's Nest Restaurant and Lounge. Decor in McVey's includes hardwood floors, exposed brick, art on the walls of this storefront restaurant.

Oy, McVey's! Top-drawer eats in Lowell - Northwest Indiana News, BY BARBARA ROLEK, 22 October 2006; If you like Dick's Restaurant in St. John, you're going to love McVey's. The throwback to a '50s supper club features steak, seafood, chicken, and seldom-seen shrimp de jonghe, chauteaubriand for two and broasted chicken. Nearly everything is made inhouse, including three salad dressings, tartar, lemon-dill and cocktail sauces, and daily soups. I understand a recent sweet potato bisque was killer. Opt for a two- or three-item combination dinner to sample several dishes in one fell swoop. The steak-shrimp-crabcakes combo -- a tender 8-ounce sirloin steak, two chubby crabcakes made with real blue lump crab meat, and four butterflied sautéed shrimp -- was a steal at $17.95. Look for prime rib all day Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays ($16.95 and $23.95). Other house favorites are ribs, pork tenderloin, meat loaf, Shrimp Scampi Linguine, Chicken Parmigiana, sautéed or deep-fried lake perch and crab legs. A terrific value is the four-piece broasted chicken dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays for $7.95. - suggest change
