Excellent near-campus Chinese and very fair prices As a student at Ball State University, I patronise China Express at least 3-5 times per week. It's across the street from campus, and right next to The Den (I recommend you purchase your soda at the Den, since you can get 32oz for 50 cents, as opposed to a standard refillable but not carry-outable soda for about $1.50 or so at CE). There's a TV in the small dining room (space so close to campus is at a serious premium, but China Express is only rarely crowded) that is usually tuned to either G4 (video game TV), Spike, or VH1, so if you don't like television, you might do well to avoid the place. Then again, what sort of ambiance are you expecting? It's a small Chinese place a block from a college campus... refined dining it ain't, and shouldn't be.
The food is outstanding. I usually stick to fried rice, but I've ventured out a few times, and been rewarded every time with a tasty meal. The portions are also large... a pint of rice covers a good-sized plate, and if you order takeout or delivery (8 bucks minimum, 5 bucks on campus) you'll get your food practically straining at the confines of the delivery package.
Finally, the staff deserves commendation. They're always prompt and polite, and the owner is a nice guy as well. [28 Dec 2005 18:45:56]
