Great lunch specials
The Texas Corral offers great and filling lunch specials Mon-Sat for $4.95. From burgers to pasta and salads, I have never been displeased.

There are also daily drink specials. Mondays certain draft beers are only 50 cents; Fridays "texas-sized" drinks are a dollar off and worth it!

You enter this place and get all the shelled peanuts you can it. Go ahead, throw the shells on the floor, too. Servers even encourage you to.

Sweet warm bread comes with all meals, too. Sodas re refillable as well.

And for the non-smokers here, this place is big enough to keep the stinking smokers away and you can enjoy your meal stink-free.

There are several other locally-owned Texas Corrals in Northwest Indiana, but this one is my favorite. The manager is always busy during normal hours to talk to guests. Servers are very attentive.    [29 Jun 2004 12:34:55]

Quality slipping
I visited the Portage, IN Texas Corral on July 20, 2004. First, it appeared that the air conditioning was not working very well that evening. I was very disappointed with the food. We (my husband, daughter, and I) went there to celebrate my daughter's 17th birthday. She chose this restaurant for her birthday meal. The special that night was steak tacos, so I ordered them. There was very little meat in them, the lettuce was wilted, they were cold, and our server told us there would be no tomatoes on anything, because they were out. How does a restaurant like Texas Corral run out of tomatoes on a Tuesday night?? My daughter ordered chicken fajitas, which were okay. My husband ordered prime rib (medium rare), and it was mostly fat, very little meat, more medium well than medium rare, and we questioned the weight of it. The service was very, very good. The fajitas were hot, the rest of the entrees were cold, especially the "steak" tacos, which, by the way, cost $11.95 (for no meat!)I was not impressed with the kitchen management. This corporation should have hired my husband when they had the chance - he could manage a restaurant kitchen much more effectively than it is currently being managed. Before you say this review is "sour grapes", let me clarify that my husband interviewed with this company in July 2003, and we have been visiting the Portage Texas Corral on a regular basis before and after his interview, and we will visit the restaurant again in the future because we have always liked eating there. I hope our bad experience was just a "bad night" for the kitchen, and not a continuing trend. However, if they are looking for a kitchen manager, (I am serious), my husband, with over 20 years in the restaurant business, would be excellent at it!    [07 Sep 2004 13:13:00]

Best Restraunt in Michigan City
We recently moved to Northwest Indiana a few months ago and have been looking for a decent restauraunt. Texas Corral is the best that we have found. We will be dining at Texas Corral on a regular basis. The Salad was cold, with fresh lettuce, the blue cheese was very good. Rolls were nicely sweetened. The Steaks were the best.    [05 Apr 2005 07:59:06]

Excellent Service
I consistantly dine at this resturant because the food is good, but what really keeps me coming back is the service.    [09 Mar 2006 12:04:40]

Excellent
Texas Corral is one of my favorite restaurtants to go to. The prices are reasonable and you get a lot of food. Their rolls with their honey cinnamon butter are to die for. You also get shelled peanuts to eat and throw the shells on the floor that add to the Texas saloon style theme. I would highly recommend Texas Corral to anyone.    [29 Mar 2006 18:49:09]

Texas Corral - Bad Food
OK, We thought we would give it one more try. We have been to the Texas Corral in Portage on 4 separate occasion. The first time was OK. The second time I was disappointed in the food. The third time we went for the Shrimp Platter special advertised on the marquee. It was very good. Lots of plump shrimp breaded lightly. So on Mother's Day 5/14/06 I suggested we go again. This will be the last time. My wife ordered 12 oz. Prime Rib, I ordered the Jumbo Shrimp dinner. The prime rib was anything but prime. It was very stringy and full of fat. I can't believe they charged about $14.00 for it. The Jumbo Shrimp was not good either. The only thing jumbo about this shrimp was the batter coating and only six on the platter. At $2.33 per shrimp I got ripped off big time. The shrimp were not jumbo. In fact if they had to advertise by shrimp standards I doubt they would be any larger than medium. I don't complain to the kitchen of any restaurant anymore. You never know what you are going to get back. Instead I tell all my friends whether or not to go.    [15 May 2006 15:08:30]

Texas Corral, Canton MI
Today was the trial run for the waitstaff. Tomorrow is the grand opening. The food was very good. The servings were huge. If they keep going the way it was tonight then they'll do great business. I'll definately go back.    [08 Aug 2006 21:31:06]

Texas Corral in Canton, Michigan
We went in for the first time today. The wait was terribly long, and the order was served wrong. The food was horrible. The steaks were bland and so tough and overcooked as to make them inedible. The potatoes, fries or mashed, were so dry it was awful. Nothing was good. It was a disgrace. I sent my steak dinner back and refused to eat any of it due to the horrible dryness of it. The manager had a special steak made just for me, when I begged him not to. I was going to just pay for what I got and leave. The "special" steak had a little seasoning, but was as tough, dry and over cooked as the first. The other manager agreed it was well done and not medium. I will never go back.    [12 Mar 2007 01:22:34]
