Nice generic place
The Free State Brewing Co likes to emphasize its restaurant status and its kitchen to distinguish themselves from other brew pubs in the area. Well, they offer basic food and generic, self-brewed beers. If you like food that does not have to be special and might even be rather simple, but good, then Freestate's menu is for you. Dishes include "homemade" cooking from burgers to pasta with the occasional chicken dish. The beers tend to be on the sweet side, but overall they are quite drinkable. Though the plain "Copperhead" might be the most advisable. While this is a simple place, you can also not expect too much from the service personnel. Far from generic, Free State Brewery is one-of-a-kind; indeed, the first legal brewery in Kansas in over 100 years. The food is very good, with a wide range of options for vegetarians as well as persons with an acute palate. The clean, layered flavors of the dishes are surpassed only by the quality of the microbrews. After spending more than 10 years trying different beers (in Colorado and elsewhere), one is hard-pressed to name more than a handful of breweries across the nation that can match the quality of Free State, pint for pint.    [10 May 2006 12:56:51]
