Good Neighborhood Spot
Nothing pretentious here; just good neighborhood place to go for dinner. Menu has a nice breadth of dishes so there is something for everyone. Service is efficient; can be a little fast so you may have to slow it down. There are two dining rooms and a bar area. Nice to see that they have gotten a little more upscale with some of the daily specials.    [11 Mar 2002 23:39:58]

Terrible
We were regulars until a terrible experience. We had to ask our (rude) waitress four different times to return our wine due to dirty glasses. The last time we had to ask her, she rudely replied, "Well, your glasses were clean the first time."

Both of seafood dishes were burnt. We asked to speak to the manager and were abruptly told that he was not on duty and there was no one we could talk with.    [09 Sep 2003 14:12:55]

Very Good
Service was good, waitress was pleasant. Good portion of calamari with really good dipping sauce for the appetizer. The food was fabulous. You had the comfort of Southie with an atmosphere like Back Bay. I highly recommend it    [30 Dec 2005 13:06:57]

Not What It Used To Be
My husband and I recently went to dinner at the newly renovated Amhreins. I was anxiously awaiting it's re-opening. When you first walk in you notice that everything is new, but the decor is kind of confusing. I'm not sure whether it's supposed to be a sports bar or upscale restaurant (or both?). The prices certainly are upscale (for the area).

The new menu has a much smaller selection than the original menu. I found the food to be just o.k. I had the roasted thyme chicken. While the flavor was fair, the thigh part of the chicken was undercooked and the portions small. My husband ordered a hamburger medium well (which came out extremely rare.) We probably would have sent it back if we could find our waitress. (Where did the waitresses from the original Amrhein's go?) The waitstaff seemed more interested in each other than the diners. I should also say that this is the first time in my life that I had dinner at Amrhein's where I left feeling less than satisfied.

Amrheins has changed, and not for the better. It makes me sad to say this, but I don't plan on going back.    [25 Jan 2006 14:36:17]

What Has Happened?
I went to Amrhein's when it first reopened in the fall and loved what they had done. The place looked great, service was wonderful and food was good. I took some friends this week and the place actually looked dirty, the service was slow. Our food was not cooked the way we ordered it. When we asked to see the manager, we were told there wasn't one available right then? What is that all about?

Too bad - it had real potential    [06 Mar 2006 17:20:31]

Awful Service
Waiter was hard to find and not at all focused on customers. Asked for water twice, never got it. Asked for soda refill, never got it. Asked for $10 hamburger medium well, got it burnt to a crisp. Never going back. Got a gift certificate recently for Amrheins and refuse to use it.    [08 Apr 2006 19:58:31]
