Two bad nights in a row, on my On a business trip to Boston Jul 26-28 I had dinner at Legal Seafoods at 26 Park Square on the 26th and 27th. Tomorrow is the 28th and I will not be there again for dinner.
On the 26th the overall experience was so-so.
The steamers were good though there was an unopened one that should have been removed before serving.
The salad wedge was ok though the neatness and presentation were not as good as with the wedge salad at Lone Star steak house.
The lobster bisque was poor. The couple chunks of lobster in it were rather rubbery (perviously frozen?) and the bisque was pretty bland.
The panko crusted tuna special was reasonably tasty though the crust was uneven and a bit dry in the thicker areas. The presentation was pretty pathetic with just two large pieces of tuna propped up on a small bed of sauteed spinach.
I skipped dessert there and instead went to Finale across the street which was good.
Dinner at Legal Seafoods on the 27th was largely a dissaster.
Once again while the steamers were good overall there was again an unopened one that should have been removed before serving.
I skipped the salad and the bisque this time and went directly to the entree.
I ordered the seafood casserole, with the sherry garlic butter and *without cheese*. I ordered the baked potato and broccoli as sides.
The brocoli was lightly steamed which is good since I hate it overcooked, however it was so lightly steamed as to be almost raw which was a bit much.
The baked potato arrived still wrapped in foil and with a little cup of sour cream on the side. I would rather have expected it to have been presented with the foil and potato split and mashed open a bit.
They also neglected to include a cup of butter for the broccoli or potato and the single pat I had left from the rolls was certainly inadequate. I'm sure they would have brought more if I asked but I had already lost ambition.
The seafood casserole of course arrived *with* cheese so I just sighed and started picking it off. Perhaps it was the sherry in the sherry garlic butter hitting me the wrong way, but I swear I detected a note of ammonia in the casserole indicating something wasn't as fresh as it should be.
I suffered through the meal and let the waitress know of my dissapointment before leaving for dessert at Finale again.
Given that it was dissapointing two nights in a row I'm inclined not to give them any "off night" slack.
Perhaps it was an odd occurance, but those two nights rated far below the reputation they are alleged to have.
