Good Mexican in Brookline Village
I eat there at least once a week and recommend it highly. The food is good, as are the prices, and the people who own it and work there are first rate. It's primarily a take out place, but for quick and fresh Mexican, I haven't found any place in Boston that competes.    [13 Jun 2002 02:55:39]

Good Burritos in Brookline.
Although Boston has few good spots for Mexican food, Brookline is lucky to have a few good burrito joints. Baja Betty's is one of the best bets for burritos in the Greater Boston area. Although the burritos are a bit more expensive than some of the competition, they're also larger - you get plenty of bang for the buck - and they are made with good, fresh ingredients. Baja Betty's emulates "California-style" burritos, with an emphasis on reducing fat (for example, burritos can be ordered with yogurt instead of sour cream). The vegetable tamales are also good, when they're available. The salsa bar, with choices of mild, medium, hot, onions with cilantro, and spicy pickled peppers, is a big plus. The ambiance shows a bit more imagination than many counter-service places, with a "wall of hot sauces," and the staff is also very friendly - they make an effort to get to know regular and even semi-regular customers.    [25 Feb 2003 15:35:33]

Head to Betty's
Not your typical burrito menu. Betty's has some innovative toppings like spicy mushrooms or corn to add to their great basics to make your own burrito. Of course, they have stuffed peppers, tacos, and other items to chose from but I just cannot get past their Watson. A friendly, low-key environment.    [15 Aug 2003 14:59:39]

Life Is Too Short to Eat Here
I was played. Having had a decent experience with a late night tamale at Baja Betty’s I returned last night for a burrito, only to find that I’d been deceived. First of all, the price of my Betty Burrito (I think that’s the name) is coming up on $7 — too much for even the best burrito. But my expensive burrito included only trace amounts of cheese and veggies, no sour cream and no guacamole. For $6.75 I want guacamole.

What was in my burrito was not very good. Mostly beans and rice and neither juicy nor flavorful. I found the menu difficult to understand. I also found the attitude of the man working the counter similarly difficult to understand. He was even grouchy about explaining the menu to me.

Life is too short to eat bad burritos. And there are just too many places for good food in Brookline to put up with poor value, lackluster product and bad attitude. Bye bye, Betty.    [19 Jul 2005 17:37:19]
