Description

An upscale casual restaurant and bar, by the people behind the Washington Square Tavern. The menus of the two restaurants are similar, with appetizers, "platters," and main courses. Platters include sandwiches and somewhat lighter fare.

Outdoor dining is available in season on a large wooden deck facing Beacon Street.

The tavern is located near the St. Mary's stop on the MBTA Green Line "C" branch.

Brookline Gets One Better
The same friendly atmosphere as their other restaurant up the street but with more room. The outside patio is a plus.

Definitely hope they make the ribs a permanent fixture on the menu. These chefs put out great food all around by using top quality ingredients and they support people with special needs by purchasing products through JamboChef. I like that.    [03 Jul 2006 12:09:31]

Offensive Staff
We tried to go to this restaurant but when I showed up with a sleeveless t shirt (not a tank top) I was told that they don't allow "wife beaters' t-shirts". I was shocked at the offensiveness of the remark. Seemed a very odd way of introducing a new restaurant. I will be sure to tell everyone I know not to use their dollars at this establishment.    [04 Jul 2006 23:57:51]

Win Win Win
Jerry has the right formula here - unpretentious and with great food at very reasonable prices. And for those of us that enjoy wine, a fun list at moderate prices offering something for everyone. The deck is clearly a win - all we need now is a long summer followed by a long Indian summer! Parking is a challenge but the BST is worth the effort. See you there.    [10 Jul 2006 13:23:14]

Superb
Everyone in our party of six was astounded by the food quality. Three rated it as "the best I've ever had".
Overall it was delightful. We expect to be back often.    [10 Jul 2006 21:35:45]

Very Rude Service
After less than an hour, one of the members of our party of 6 asked for water. She was told that she couldn't have any more water because they wanted to turn the table. While everything other than the service was good, even impressive, we'll take our business elsewhere.    [27 Jul 2006 23:35:47]

Could Brookline Be...Cool?
Ate at this place when it first opened and while it was pretty good, it seemed typical for the area. But went back tonight after the [Red Sox] game and it had been transformed into a hipster bar. Mostly post-game peeps (and not many) but for a Monday night in Boston, we had a ball. One beer turned into 4 and we stayed for a couple hours bantering with hottie bartender. Cool tunes, too. I felt good about suggesting to my friends we stop there on the way home. This could be a hotspot!    [01 Aug 2006 02:14:31]

Rudeness Rules
My experience was similar to other patrons that complained of rudeness from staff. The staff attitude spoiled what was a pretty good meal. Impatient, inept, and just plain rude characterized this dining experience.    [05 Sep 2006 08:50:48]

Always Enjoyable
Been here a few times now and always enjoyed my experiences. Never had to deal with rude staff though. Always seem quite knowledgeable and professional. Love the tips and crab cakes. Keep up the good work.    [04 Oct 2006 15:55:57]

We were frequent diners, on the early side to avoid crowds and noise, because the food & service were terrific. We liked the menu choice and the lack of pretension about the Tavern. However, our last two meals were not good. I asked: there's a new chef. The menu reflects a focus on beer, wine, etc. Food seems to be not so important. We are sorry to lose an exceptional restaurant that we introduced to so many of our friends.    [18 Sep 2007 21:15:40]
