Fantastic Food, Laid-back Atmosphere We meant to go to Hingham to spend a day at the beach, and then we stumbled onto the doorstep of Black Fin. What a pleasant surprise. We were a party of three, and we ordered a raw bar platter for four, a really refreshing salad, a bouillabaise which comes in a hearty portion, and a 2-lb lobster. We wiped out everything, and my personal favorite is the meaty crab claws from the platter. I have to disagree with the Phantom Review about their service, since I found our hostess extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. We would definitely come back from Brookline. This Is a Great South Shore Restaurant! Just had to write up a fantastic review for the Blackfin. I just came from my office luncheon for 30 people. Everything was absolutely perfect! The staff was attentive without being clingy. The Sun Room was bright and beautiful with white linens. We enjoyed passed appetizers and a fruit and cheese board, then a hearty salad/chowder course. The entrees were exquisite. I had the salmon and not only was it grilled to perfection, it was a very generous portion. The vegetable and potato were worth mentioning, too. Sometimes that can be where a restaurant comes up short by serving wilted veggies and stiff mashed potatoes, but these were wonderfully fresh and delicious. We had our choice of three desserts and even though everything looked wonderful, I'm glad I chose the classic creme brulee. It was delicious! If you have a function coming up on the South Shore and you're looking for someplace special to have it, consider this great restaurant. There are a number of very lovely, very comfortable function rooms throughout this historic sea captain's home. Check it out! [16 Dec 2003 17:13:11]

Cater to a Certain Clientele I had a very bad experience dining here. I had reservations and still had to wait almost 45 minutes. The service was terrible, she was very nice but way too busy to be attentive. After all the waiting and slow service, the food also came up short. For the prices they charge, I was extremely disappointed. I will never go back! [04 Jan 2004 15:59:00]

Small Wedding, Great Room Had a small wedding reception (40 people) at Blackfin. Food and service were outstanding. Filet, swordfish, salmon and chicken all got great reviews. Shrimp were huge. [14 Jun 2005 09:58:15]
