Well Worth the Drive The native fried clams were great. I was waiting for company to visit me in NH before I tried the Clam Box in Ipswich. The place looks like a fast food joint, but the taste is out of this world. My buddies from Maryland, Delaware, and Indiana loved it. In fair play, the onion rings were plain and I would not order them again. The service was on par. [28 Oct 2003 19:27:18]

Very Overpriced Good clams but have had just as good clams in other Gloucester restaurants. Lines too long. Service too slow. Price exorbitant. [26 Sep 2004 15:00:30]

Don't Miss It I have eaten seafood, especially fried, in numerous restaurants in the area and none compare to the Clam Box. The batter used on the fried foods is excellent, the seafood always fresh and delicious. In season the line is very long unless you manage to arrive mid-afternoon. In off season and when they are not too busy, you can call in your order and avoid the line. There are tables inside as well as some picnic tables outside. [23 Feb 2005 13:16:53]

By Far the Best Fried Food in Massachusetts I'm a local chef and restaurant owner in Salem, MA. The food at The Clam Box is by far the best fried food in Massachusetts. I have tried clams in other cities in Massachusetts, but nothing even comes close, and the place is so clean. I understand that they change the grease every couple of hours, and that makes all the difference in the world. [13 Mar 2006 18:19:40]

More Tartar Sauce, Please... Tasty fried scallops with good batter and not frighteningly greasy. I was a little perturbed at the stingy portion of tartar sauce given...it was no more than a teaspoon. Are they using Hellmann's? [20 May 2007 20:27:24]
