Mixed Review In my mind, Peking Garden is most associated with dim sum, and, in fact, it has some things one does not find elsewhere (e.g., daikon pie aka radish pie). They recently changed the dim sum menu a bit, making it much better in my opinion. Some of the welcome additions are daikon gelatin (usually called daikon or radish cake) and tripe. Another favorite of mine is tofu rolls, which seem to be tofu skin around veggies. They are served with, of all things, what tastes like Worcestershire Sauce! I also love the sweet soy milk, which tastes much better than the now-ubiquitous soy milks found in stores.
As far the other fare goes, I prefer Yangtze River, although I do sometimes partake of Peking Garden's buffet. Tastes must vary though, because Peking Garden has been in business for decades and seems to have its following.
My ratings will be for the restaurant as a whole. My ratings for dim sum are considerably higher. [10 Aug 2001 15:24:20]

Wedding Banquet I recently went there for a wedding reception. The food was so-so. There were some specialty dishes but some of them tasted like fast food. [09 Sep 2002 22:03:38]

Cheap Lunch Buffet If you work in Lexington or are passing through just around lunch time, this restaurant is an excellent choice. Simply said, its lunch buffet offers the best bang for the buck with reasonably good food and variety for a very affordable price (around $8).
Nothing here will reinvent your concept of Chinese food, but on the other hand, you will have a good time and enjoy decent food. [03 Feb 2003 11:58:33]

Absolute Trash We went there last night and the wait staff and service was horrible. I'm actually going to write a letter complaining about their service after I finish their review.
Because the waiter did not speak audibly and enunciate, there were many misunderstandings. First off, he brought us two main dishes when we had ordered one and then he almost refused to return the other dish to the kitchen when we told him it was a misunderstanding. He looked absolutely peeved, so much so, that he just left the food on the table and left in a huff. The hostess finally had to take over. The waiter never said he was sorry or apologized for his mistake. The whole time he seemed miserable doing his job, obviously his whole attitude reflects badly on the restaurant.
As for the food, it was dry and tasteless. Since when do you need to pour massive amounts of sweet and sour sauce so that your food actually tastes like something? [09 Aug 2005 12:41:44]

Service Better than [Another Local Chinese Restaurant] Food isn't what it used to be, and the atmosphere is a bit dead, but at least the service isn't rude and the owners aren't arrogant. [18 Jun 2006 21:47:57]

Inconsistent We live nearby this restaurant and used to be regulars. Having stopped going after several disappointing visits, we recently ate dinner there again followed by a dim sum trip. It was back to being an enjoyable dining experience. [20 Oct 2006 14:53:09]
