Description
Casual Italian restaurant on the Needham/Newton line. The restaurant is tucked away just behind some buildings on Highland Avenue, and Highland Circle is not clearly marked, so it can be tricky to find. The restaurant uses a sandwich board sign on Highland Avenue to mark where to turn.
The menu features pastas, main dishes, pizzas, and panini.

This Is the Real Thing We loved our dinner at La Spiga last Saturday night. We started with an amazing homemade boar sausage appetizer with fried polenta and rolled stuffed eggplant. We also split the best salad we have ever tasted with spinach, smoky bacon and sun dried tomatoes and nuts. We then enjoyed the veal chops that we found to be juicy and delicious. For dessert we had what was the best cannoli we have every sampled - North End, move over.
The house red, a blend, was fantastic! [19 Nov 2007 17:42:32]

It's Fair but Definitely Not Truly Italian We are Italian and cook Italian. La Spiga is a typical "Americanized" Italian restaurant. It's not bad, but hugely overrated by those that do not truly know good Italian/authentic food. Those same people think the Chateau in Waltham is great! Bear in mind, the so-called "chefs" on TV also "Americanize" Italian food with sauces and ingredients that no red-blooded Italian would be caught dead using. Golden rule of Italian food: very simple with fresh ingredients! La Spiga is fair but nothing to brag about. We tried it twice...same rating. [07 Mar 2008 19:20:17]

Great Place I loved the food. You can tell its fresh and well prepared. I am so glad I tried it for lunch; I can not wait until I go for dinner. It is maybe 1 or 2 dollars more then lesser places but well worth it when you taste it. [17 Apr 2008 18:08:27]

La Spiga We have been to La Spiga on two separate occasions and both times found the food, atmosphere, staff and owners to be phenomenal. They very happily accommodated our special requests. The food was fresh and well made. We grew up in an Italian home surrounded by parents, friends and relatives who created Italian feasts every Sunday and all family gatherings. We are very particular about where we will eat out Italian food. We will return to La Spiga many more times. We will be going back again on Mother's Day. [05 May 2008 20:41:32]

Not That Great We dined there last week and are Italian. We did not like the cooking and the service. Cooking was mediocre, though someone that doesn't know true Italian food might like it. Eating at home beats this place hands down by miles. Italian cooking? Who are they kidding? [30 May 2008 19:10:18]
