Bad, Very Bad On Thursday, November 18, 2004, we were having dinner and Susan ordered baked scrod. When the meal came, after the first bite of the fish was taken, something wasn’t normal. It tasted “weird.” After the second bite, Susan smelled her plate, specifically, the fish. An extremely strong odor of ammonia was present on the fish. Sean smelled the plate and was overwhelmed by the odor, as well. We called the waiter to the table and asked him to smell the plate. He refused, but said he would get the manager.
When the manager came to the table, he asked, “So I hear you think you smelled a cleaner or something, something was wrong with your meal? We’re going to take that meal off for you.” He left the table and Susan ordered a cheeseburger, because it was something that wouldn’t take long to wait for.
Finally, after we were done eating, we were given the check. We noticed the cheeseburger was included on the bill. As compensation for being served a meal which had a toxic chemical on it, we felt we should not be expected to pay for the substituted meal. So we called for the manager, Gary, a second time.
When Gary came to the table, Sean asked him if he knew that our waiter had charged us for the cheeseburger, again under the impression that a manager would not expect someone to pay for a substitute meal when the first one had ammonia in it. Instead, he told us, “Yes, it is policy when you don’t like a meal and return it for a second one you have to pay for the second meal.” We informed him it was not a question of like or dislike, rather a case of the meal being contaminated with a toxic chemical.
He continued to tell us we were wrong, that he didn’t smell anything, and that he could “guarantee there was absolutely no ammonia on the fish” because he was in the kitchen watching the food be cooked and delivered. Honestly, for him to oversee every meal being cooked for every customer in that restaurant, we find it impossible to believe that’s true.
Regardless, we don’t feel that his actions were appropriate. He continued to be defensive and argumentative, accusing Sean of trying to tell him how to do his job. Angrily, his final words were, “Do you want anything else? Are we done here?”
(I later found out that the smell of ammonia is the smell of bad fish!) [03 Jan 2005 17:44:00]

As Always, Excellent I've been a customer of the Sylvan Street Grille in Peabody since it first opened back in the late 80's.
I've easily been there a hundred times or more for dinner and/or drinks.
I have never had bad service, although during the busy times, it can be difficult to flag one down.
The food is excellent!
I haven't tried the one is Salisbury, yet, but I plan to soon. [17 Jul 2005 17:36:41]
