Great Pasta
We have been eating here once a week for years. My favorite dishes are eggplant parm, swordfish, char-broiled chicken, and spaghetti and meatballs. The red sauce is the best around and we eat in a lot of places. The pasta dishes and the seafood are your best bet here. The steaks and chops can vary in quality. The service is fantastic because the wait staff has not turned over much in years.    [30 Dec 2001 12:04:34]

Excellent Food
I have been going to La Scala Restaurant for years. I have always had excellent service and excellent food. I have never had a problem there. The service was great. I have loved everything that I have had there. Everybody is extremely pleasant, from the host/hostess to the bus boy/girl. Everybody looks like they love what they do, which is important. The organization that I worked for had several meetings at La Scala and we were never disappointed.    [25 Apr 2003 11:55:32]

Split
My family and I never go and sit down and eat at La Scala but we do the take out thing. When we get home we open up all the different foods. The food is so good you can't just have one so my family and I make a buffet and we try everything.    [11 May 2003 13:36:20]

Suddenly Disappointing
My family and I have been to La Scala several times. We were so impressed we booked reservations for Mother's Day well in advance. Not only did we wait over an hour for a seat but were told we could not have smoking although that is the reservation we made. Apparently there was a 15 member party who clearly knew the owner and were allowed to sit on for hours and hours. As a result, other paying customers were pushed off.

When we finally were seated they crammed five of us into a four top. The meals were average, at best. They clearly were rushed due to the high volume of patrons, many of whom were verbally displeased at the wait, seating situation and so on. However, the most egregious issue with our Mother's Day was when my father sat back in his chair and the entire back and left two legs snapped off throwing him to the ground. We were told the chairs were rented and then were subjected to jokes about the incident from the waitress. Meanwhile, they were quick to take their $140+ without even offering what any other restaurant would have offered (drinks or a meal for free).

We will not dine in La Scala again. For the price of their meals, the service is simply second rate.    [11 May 2003 17:48:29]

Slightly Above Standard Fare
My wife and I went to La Scala for the first time this weekend after having driven past it a hundred times. Besides being seated next to a loud party of six, the service was friendly and attentive. The dining room seemed a little tight, and they could do with a couple less tables to give folks a bit more breathing room.

The menu and food were family style but the dishes, veal marsala and linguine with clams were above average for a family-style restaurant. The veal was savory and delicious, and the clams were fresh, lightly briney and not over-garlicy. The pasta was cooked just right whereas in family style restaurants the pasta is too often overcooked and ruins the dish. The antipasto left something to be desired, but the cannoli was one of the best I've ever eaten -- not floury, very fresh filling, and lightly creamy, buttery and lightly sugary. They weren't up to the standards of some places in Eastie, but for five minutes up the road, they weren't bad either.    [31 Aug 2003 22:36:30]

Too Much Oil Used in Cooking
I went there last night for the first time in many years and found it a bit disappointing. It has been remodeled and looks lovely but I found the food to be swimming in oil. My friend and I got Clams Casino as an appetizer; it was unlike any other clams casino I have ever had; the clams were not evident in the shells and the plate was covered in a Marinara, cheese and oil sauce -- a lot of oil; it did not taste bad but was certainly not what I expected or wanted.

I got the chicken parm which again was covered with an oily sauce and had been deep fried; my friend got shrimp scampi which had plenty of shrimp. The sauce was mostly oil with other flavorings including garlic - again way too greasy. The food did not taste bad but I must admit my stomach was upset all night - I am not used to eating food cooked in so much oil. The place was nice but I probably will not go again for many more years; I believe the food could still be good using a moderate amount of oil.    [16 Sep 2003 08:10:32]

Super Fabulous
Any time my boyfriend and I want delicious food at a reasonable price the decision is a no-brainer - La Scala in Randolph. The servers are always friendly and efficient, the wine selection decent, and the menu options abundant. It is well worth the typical half-hour wait for a table.    [04 Nov 2003 21:24:38]

Wow, You People Clearly Don't Know Anything About Italian Cuisine
I'm a 19 year old Dedham, MA resident and I've lived here for about 5 years. In that time, I've eaten at about every restaurant withing a 15 mile radius of my town, and I must say that La Scala is easily the best. The Veal Marguerita is hands down the best meal I've ever indulged (and I say indulged because it should be a sin to eat this) in, the atmosphere is incredible, the decor is beautiful, and the service is exquisite considering the volume of guests they receive.    [19 Dec 2003 00:07:22]

Completely Awful
My husband and I recently moved to Randolph. We have frequently dined at La Scala and have enjoyed every meal. Although we have noticed the hostess to be rude, we continued to go for the food.

Last night I brought two friends from out of town for dinner. My friend and I each had the chicken, broccoli and penne, my other friend had the chicken with artichokes in white wine sauce. When the broccoli, chicken, and penne arrived, it didn't even look good. There were no florets - just stems - and you could tell it was frozen broccoli, we each counted about 5 small pieces of chicken that had not been pounded out; it was tough and I had to spit out some of it since there were knuckles or some unidentifiable matter attached to the chicken. The penne was so over cooked, you couldn't spear it with your fork for it fell apart. The whole dish was like eating very salty mush. It was disgusting. I didn't eat, it was that bad. Luckily, my friend's chicken and artichoke dish was good.

Then, to my horror, they tried to make our dinner quick and issued the check very quickly in order to free up the table - we overheard a table next to us complaining about that and we agreed with them - for the food not to be good and the service just okay, we will be dining elsewhere from now on.    [08 Jan 2004 08:56:21]

Great Scallops
The scallops are deee-licious. I was there just after the renovations were complete and was impressed with the decor and the food.    [24 Feb 2004 17:04:05]
