Loved It Excellent. My husband and I went once, and quickly returned. The first time we both got the lobster pie. The second, I got the lobster casserole (creamy and delicious) and he the extraordinary prime rib. The popovers were an added delight! [12 Oct 2002 21:52:35]

I have been going to the Wharf for several years. The last few times it has NOT been an enjoyable experience. The owner and his family take over a small section of the restaurant and let thier children run amok up and down the aisles...crying, yelling, screaming like it's their very own playground. Not only had I lost my concentration with my company, I lost my appetite for good with them. This is usaully a Saturday night (date/couple night) that the fracas begins. Also, this same evening the owner was rude to a worker 5 feet from our table (we since moved from the rugrats). They also have people setting up tables for the next day - working around the paying customers? I think not! [21 Oct 2003 18:42:11]

Mofo
Sorry, Not Too Impressed I had a similar experience like Mofo. The owner(?) was rude to a waitress but of course veeeery nice to me (slime). The waitresses looked all very stressed and under pressure though the one who served me was maintaining a professional and friendly attitude. I had the feeling they don't enjoy working for this guy. (I wouldn't.)
The restaurant itself is actually very nice. Water view, large room and it looks a little bit like 2 or 3 notches above a regular diner. But the food that I had did not quite live up to that. But that might have been just the Fisherman Platter that I picked. Everything was fried and tossed on one big plate. The sauces came in plastic dips just like at Kelly's Roast Beef. The hot rolls they serve as a pre-appetizer are awsome. I think it's OK if you look for something at the lower end of the scale. It's a diner with dress code for the waiters/waitresses. One of My All-Time Favorites Great prime rib, and the popovers are the best around. Plenty of food (and I'm not a heavy person), attentive service and owner / host were very accommodating. [08 Feb 2007 09:46:08]

Nice Bar I have only been in the bar twice. The service has been very good. The twin lobsters were great. They have the best Johnnie Walker Blue price around. Only $22 a shot. That is good for the blue. [15 Feb 2007 18:06:59]

Still up in the air OK, I grew up in the nearby area, and the original Wharf was a tiny place, but, always great pub-style food. Best steamers I've ever had--and that was in the late '70's!! I had heard a few good things about the new one, and a few not so good things. But, this Easter, we decided to go out for dinner, and my sister chose The Wharf. We had reservations that afternoon, and still ended up waiting about 40 minutes before being seated. The bar was still set up for the brunch, which meant waiting out in the hallway. Every time the door opened, there was an arctic blast of air, as Easter was a pretty chilly day. When we finally got seated, our chairs were the type that you use when having a cookout. Resin, dark green, and not very comfy. The noise level was in the 80 dB range, ouch! And the food was, in my opinion, soooooo not worth the price! I ordered the baked stuffed shrimp. With seafood, I prefer rice. Not available. Neither was the Lobster Casserole, of which I've heard good things. (Unless you wanted to order the Prime Rib, then for an extra $whatever$$$$, you could get it as a surf&turf) The shrimp was supposed to be stuffed with some kind of crab meat stuffing. It tasted like tuna, and had that overpowering red and green pepper taste. The shrimp were certainly not the "jumbo" shrimp that was indicated. More like the small-medium size. I will definitely give it a second chance, because I go by the "three strikes" rule. It was, after all, Easter Sunday. And they were swamped!! (Bad planning, in my opinion) I will let you know what happens the next time, friends. Bon Appetit!
PS: Oh! The phyllo wrapped asparagus is exceptional! [13 Apr 2007 03:38:34]

Excellent!!! My husband and I went there this past Saturday evening. The atmosphere was nice. There was a piano player in the dining room and candles on every table. I ordered the twin lobster, which was good and he ordered the haddock au gratin. It was excellent. We each had the mini martini sampler, which was well worth it. The bar was also nice. Overall, great experience, we are already planning a return trip with our parents. [17 Apr 2007 09:02:46]

not the owner Who has not had a bad experience with that guy with the accent? But to let you know, he is not the owner, just a very bad manager. He is brutal to the staff, and at times not very courteous to the customers. But the food has always been great for us, hence our frequent returns. As with all places, you may experience a sub-par meal, but at the Mt. Vernon, that has not been the case. [26 Jun 2007 16:17:59]

hmmm.
I Won't Return I went there on a Sunday night. We asked to sit outside and were told that it would be at least an hour wait. We chose to eat inside. There were more than 3 empty tables outside before I even saw my waiter. They were out of Steamers, but did not tell me until a period of time after I ordered them and overheard another waitress tell someone at the table next to mine that they were out. Next I ordered steak tips with mashed potatoes. The waiter returned with French fries instead. He told me that they were out of every potato accept French fries. I wish he would have told me this before. When the waiter stated to me that they were busy, I heard the host sarcastically say, "Yeah, very busy." The waiter was very rude. They were out of steamers and French fries and made me and other people in my party feel that it was our fault because they were busy earlier in the night. The host was equally as rude. I can honestly say, this was my worse dining experience. I hear other people talking as they left and had the same feelings. [27 Jun 2007 18:29:44]
