Description

Set in a large building, reminiscent of a Chinese mansion, at the top of a hill (the former location of Weylu's and East Manor), Jin Asian Cuisine offers Chinese, dim sum, pan-Asian, and continental fare.

The atmosphere is elaborate, including massive entrance doors and marble floors and walls.

Not Worth It
The price is $23.99 per person. This place is not worth it. Food was cold and didn't look fresh.    [14 Jan 2007 02:01:33]

Avoid Disappointment - Don't Go
Bad food. Bad service. Don't bother bringing it to their attention. They don't care.    [08 Feb 2007 16:12:21]

Third Try on the Hill - the Horror
Hell, I don't know how they can afford to turn on the electricity in this place, never mind pay anybody. It was a nightmare when it was Weylu's. Then it was catastrophic when it was China Manor or whatever that was. Now, it's Jin's. Tonight's meal was a descent into pure horror. The Horror. Heinous. Criminal.

One person sits us down. Another guy, presumably the manger (Who knows?), takes our drink order, and then 10 minutes later drops off two flat sodas. Totally flat. And warm. Another guy comes over and takes our order. We tell him we need new sodas, that something is wrong with the soda machine (they all know this cause they are all playing with it). He says he will get two more. Food arrives 5 minutes later; then he comes with two glasses of water. All I can think of is - "Damn, you know they are at least gonna give it a try charging for those sodas."

We get fried rice and chow mein. Its passable. We have to ask for soy sauce. And duck sauce. They come back with a thimble full of duck sauce.

The food is passable for your local Chinese take out. Nothing more, nothing less.

Meanwhile a group of people comes in, maybe 20 or so, some type of graduation party. They are Chinese (not that this matters). The adults sit down next to us, and they stick all the kids at a table directly in the corner right behind us. I like kids, especially cute ones eating and having fun. But these kids are screaming bloody blue murder. I mean screaming. They are running around the dining room. They are throwing coins up and down the isle. I have my fingers in my ears.

Three 20 year olds who are sharply dressed are sitting in the middle of the place. They look like they went to the prom and then made the mistake of their lives.

When the kids progress to playing baseball with a quarter and trying to hit it with a Gameboy, one of the girls at the sharply dressed table looses her mind. She calls the manager over. She says they spent real money to come here and that the whole damn place was out of control. She is dead on correct. It's like the zoo, with so so food, no service and literally 10 screaming kids. The adults are taking pictures of them.

The manager asks them to have the kids stop. Only cause the 3 people are still freaking out that they have paid to eat at the zoo. They don't. They keep screaming. I mean screaming.

Another couple who made a big mistake is looking on. They are trying to eat fast and run. Its a total horror show. Nobody comes with water, so I have to run to the bar with the water glasses and ask the bartender to fill em up with water. The horror.

I have my credit card in the air. I'm waving it. I want out and I want out now. Someone different comes over and takes it. They are gone for 10 minutes.

When they come back, sure enough, they charged us for the sodas we couldn't drink. They should have given us the meal for free.

Another 5 minutes and they amend the bill, and we literally run out of the place. Run.

I don't get it. Its like a reality show on how to screw up a restaurant and fail. Which can only lead me to believe that's exactly what they are trying to do. No other explanation of why this could be so utterly horrible. The take out across the street has better food. Atmosphere? Ah, yeah, OK...

I'll wait until it changes names again, and try again. Fourth time might be a charm?

What a shame. What a rip off, what a waste of such a cool building.    [02 Jun 2007 01:18:00]

Don't Have Your Wedding Here
I had my wedding at Jin Restaurant and I had a terrible experience with my wedding planner and the restaurant staff. We were promised many things but at the last minute (the evening before the wedding and the morning of the wedding), many details which were previously confirmed either "changed" or fell through. We were told that the food would come out in 10 minute intervals (taking 2.5 hours in total) but ended up taking 5 hours instead going until midnight when most of our guests had already left. It was painfully slow which many of our guests complained about. Also, the restaurant was filthy when we arrived to decorate - we had to wash all the tables encrusted in grease ourselves since there were very few wait staff in sight, barely lifting a finger. I would've been embarrassed to have our guests see and touch the tables. Considering they have virtually no business during the week, there's no reason why the restaurant is in such terrible condition. Our reception looked fabulous (no thanks to my wedding planner or the restaurant) due to all the work we had put into it ourselves but the service was highly disappointing. Another thing - they made us pay 100% of the cost (including service charges) up front, before the event even took place. They wouldn't let us in until we paid in full. I don't think this is a fair business practice, but I don't think anything at that restaurant is done properly to begin with.

Please do not have your wedding at this location - if you do, please be careful and get everything in writing. Also, please be prepared to put in a lot of elbow grease yourself if you want it to look halfway decent.    [02 Aug 2007 16:30:44]

First Time and Last Time
We were so excited to try their buffet. What a disappointment! The food was cold and hardly any of the food was labeled. There was definitely an enormous variety of dishes, but I wasn't impressed by the flavor of any dish. I love Chinese food, but I didn't love Jin's.

Never mind...for three people to eat the buffet with three ice waters, the bill was 79.00! I would much rather have spent my money at a place like P.F.Chang's or Chen Yang Li.

On a positive note, the building is so magnificent to look at!    [19 Aug 2007 20:56:49]

They Ruined Our Wedding
I booked my wedding at the restaurant over a year's in advance thinking that will give us plenty of time to button down everything. Instead, the wedding planner, Robbin, along with the owner afterward made our lives absolutely miserable.

First, they threatened to take the main room that we have reserved from us. Our reservation for that room was written in stone along with a given deposit. After much begging, they would only allow us to keep that room if we were to pay an extra of 5 tables, which we had no choice but to do it.

Secondly, they had informed us at the last minute that they were going to have a total of 5 weddings that same night! We kept telling them that we don't want our wedding, which was the first to get booked, to be compromised with fresh food and good service. They kept saying that it won't be an issue. Well, guess what happened? Our wedding had started before 7pm and the main course was still not served well into 9 o'clock. Our guests were starving, the food was cold and not fresh and they swapped some of our dishes with worse choice ones.

Third, the service was horrendous. They were so in need of extra wait staff at the last minute that they ended up hiring inexperienced people. One of the waitresses got beer all over a guest! The wedding planner, who I truly believed was sent from hell, at one point during the wedding walked around in jeans asking my guests to show her their IDs because she didn't believe they were old enough to drink. Can you imagine?

On top of all of this, I had to pay in full the night before. At the end of the night, I went to talk to the owner and went through everything with him. All he said (with a nonchalant attitude), and I quote him, was "Uh, what do you want me to do about it?" and showed us the door.

Please don't let what had happened to us happen to you. We had picked them solely for the reason of parking. We didn't want to inconvenience our guests by having them look for parking or pay for it. However, be smart and do yourself a favor and just have it at Chinatown where the experienced restaurants are. Your guests won't mind parking all that much if this is what they have to put up with!    [15 Sep 2007 19:24:54]
