Rom's Restaurant
Very satisfying meals, especially the Italian dishes. Served professionally in a relaxed family atmosphere. Fast, efficient service. The weekly buffet is definitely worth a try. The best dining in the immediate area. Ample free parking in adjoining lot.    [03 Dec 1999 10:23:40]

Always been a fan
We've been going to Rom's for about 16 years now about 20 times a year, when we're in the area and always had great meals and friendly service. Unfortunately we went there about 5 p.m. Saturday the 14th and the host was very curt and rude. He was yelling at the staff while we waited to be seated and just carried his attitude on with us. It ruined our dinning. We like Rom's so much we have decided to give it another go next time we are in the area. Really hope atmosphere hasn't changed.    [17 Sep 2002 13:19:25]

Except for the poor meal service, and cleanliness it was pretty good
First of all, the hostess was rude, abrupt, and was made us feel like we were a bother to her. She was screaming at the help because a busboy dropped a little piece of paper on the floor. I think that was a bit excessive. Anyway, I have to say the waitress was halfway decent compared to the hostess.

The food was alright, but was nothing special. I got the Chicken Caccitore, but my husband got the Prime Rib which was, as he said, 25 percent overcooked meat and 75 percent fat. The place was a pig sty, though. There were dirty trays and tables all over the place. I can't believe the hostess would let it get this out of hand. The only good thing about the meal was the apple crisp. And then the big, fat hostess came over to us and said that they were closing and asked us if we could hurry up and get out of there. Well, needless to say, I would not journey back there for a while. With the hostess pushing us out and the just so so food, I think I would rather make a trip to McDonald's.    [29 Nov 2002 17:29:03]

We come to visit family once in a while to Sturbridge, MA, and we usually love it. The waiters and waitresses were all very nice, and the meal was very good. We always greet the hostess with a nice smile and hello, but she always seems very grumpy; they need to tell her to be more friendly. It seemed like the staff got a lot of help from their bus people too because they always seemed to be on the ball, as I saw anyway.

We got our meal very quickly and one of the bus boys walked by with a tray and accidentally dropped a piece of lettuce on the floor, and the hostess saw him and chased him into the kitchen. You could hear her yelling from the kitchen all the way to the dining room! I couldn't believe she just yelled at him like that right in front of everyone. She then grabbed his arm and dragged him to where he dropped it and yelled at him once again to pick it up. I thought that was very disgraceful. Other than the hostess, I thought the food and service was great. I would go back again, and hopefully the hostess won't be there next time.    [16 Dec 2002 21:30:20]

First visit to Rom's
We recently were visiting in Sturbridge and ate at Rom's for the first time. The dining room was large, comfortable and clean. The staff was very efficient, polite and took the time to answer our questions. The house Italian dressing was great. The stuffed peppers were out of this world. A nice equal balance of meat and rice. Almost as good as mom's!

A few items that were disappointing: The description of Bolognese sauce was "shaved beef". I pictured tender pieces of braccioli, and instead received tough chunks of beef in the sauce - the same kind you find in beef stew. I was not impressed with any of the tomato sauces offered. Not enough flavor - comparable to Ragu - no homemade qualities whatsoever. I was also quite taken aback when I requested mashed potato as my choice and the waitress stated, "They are instant - do you mind?" Yes, I do. Come on guys - how hard is it to mash some real potatoes?

Overall, it was nice. I would return but definitely not for any of the "Italian" dishes.    [30 Sep 2003 21:34:18]

Once a great place now just fading fast
Once a great place to go to get home cooked Italian meals just like Nonna used to make. It's obvious times have changed at Rom's. The food is average at best and generally prepared wrong. Meals are always rushed and the food is usually cold. The service couldn't possibly be worse. The place is staffed by teeny-boppers who act annoyed that they even have to talk to you. Customer service skills are non-existant.    [04 Dec 2003 15:04:54]

More than I've gotten at any chains
Wow - huge serving sizes and a great price. I got more for my money than anywhere else I ate while visiting Sturbridge. Waitstaff was friendly - not stellar - but certainly enough to make my experience enjoyable, and they were very helpful as well. Staff happy to give directions, etc.    [25 Jan 2004 00:12:55]

Excellent as always
My family has been eating at Rom's for years and it always remains a favorite. The relaxed atmoshere is great for families. We have never had a problem with a staff member. In fact, they have always been polite and helpful. Rom's recently updated their look with paint, tablecloths, and new uniforms. They really seem to have their act together.

The food is always delicious and cheap. You can get a complete dinner for 2 with a bottle of wine and dessert for $27 on Thursdays. Overall I would recommend Rom's anytime you are in the area.    [30 Mar 2004 15:29:26]

Friday night at Rom's
Brought the kids, on Friday night they have a man that makes balloon animals, a professional. The food was excellent. Friendly and the customers around us were very friendly, too. Will definitely go again.    [02 Apr 2004 14:38:49]

Wednesday night Buffet
I had heard so much about how great the buffet is, so I decided to give it a try. I was so disappointed! I guess I was expecting it to be as good as the buffets near where I live, but it wasn't. The food quality and the selection was average at best.    [31 May 2004 19:54:15]
