The Best Restaurant I Have Ever Been to Mix fine food, awesome atmosphere, and friendly servers, and you have Campania. Many times I have left a restaurant and scrutinized the bill saying "they must have made a mistake, that was way too much $," but let's face it, that is because we were not satisfied with our experience. Not here though, the bills are steep but for some reason you feel as though it wasn't enough! [21 Jan 2002 21:47:03]

Great Italian in an Unlikely Spot Campania is a truely amazing Italian restaurant. The food is inovative and thoroughly modern, but true to its Italian roots. Neither checkered table cloth nor over the top trendy. Just perfectly executed modern Italian.
My tip, trust the sommelier, as through him we got to taste amazing wines by the glass which were not even on wine list. The only downside is the small size of the place. Definitely make reservations. [07 Oct 2002 15:24:52]

I Was Afraid I Would Have Rats Running Between My Feet as I Ate The food was excellent; however...bad location in dumpy building...I was afraid I would have rats running between my feet as I ate. They need to purchase more comfortable seats and have better seating arrangements. [31 May 2003 15:30:01]

Pricey, but Worth It Perfect atmosphere of casual elegance, excellent service (if you can plan 4-6 weeks in advance for a reservation!). Wonderful pastas and perfectly grilled meats, and the accompanying sides are delicious. Don't forget to order the souffle or "special" dessert in advance. I return again and again on special occasions, and have never been disappointed. [02 Feb 2004 13:08:32]

Good Food, Rude Service We first went to Campania when it first opened some time ago and the food and personal, family-oriented service was excellent (which is why we went back). The owner used to go from table to table and personally greet each customer.
It seems however that since they have expanded the dining area and have changed focus to more up-scale (and more expensive) clientele, the service went downhill and the prices went way up. The food remains wonderful but if you are looking for a pleasant experience, go somewhere else. We didn’t even get a "thank you" for the $40 tip we left (15+% of bill), nor a "thank you" from the hostess at the door on the way out. The waitress even spilled the remains of my wife’s appetizer plate (mussels) on her lap then insincerely said, "Sorry" and handed her a napkin then walked away like nothing ever happened.
If its just “dinner” you want, then go for it. If it’s a dinner for a special occasion, I wouldn’t recommend Campania. I certainly don't mind spending the extra money for a good meal but you would also expect exemplary service to go along with it. We didn’t get that there. Based on such a drastic turnaround, my guess is that the restaurant has changed ownership since we last went there. Next time (for the money) we will go to Number 9 park in Boston. Still the Best This is one of my favorite restaurants. Everything about it is great, especially the passion in the food. The owners are still there but not every night, it seems. Still, the place feels very welcoming and food always delicious. For a lower-priced dinner, combine appetizers and the amazing wood grilled pizzas (which made a comeback in their menu). Too Fast to Rely on The way the kitchen works make me feel that you are in a fast food chain; they want to turn the table ASAP. [15 Sep 2005 10:41:52]
