Fancy but Not Snooty Great Italian food, concentrating on Tuscan food. It's high-class comfort food. Service is attentive yet not fawning. [29 Dec 1999 09:42:50]

What's the Big Deal Walked out after waiting for a table-we had a reservation-while there where at least 3 empty ones for 15 minutes. The gentleman(?) at the door was obviously dissinterested and acting very put-upon. After complaining to him about an obvious and flagrant healthcode violation he suggested that we may not be happy eating in his restaraunt. So my guest and I promptly left and spent our money at elsewhere. The Tuscan Grill is a trendy, tiny, overcrowded hole in the wall. I don't care how ggod the food is, any one who subjects themselves to this kind of poor treatment and pays for it is just a fool. [19 Feb 2002 20:19:33]

Loved It The wine selection was designed to complement the entrees; the food was like what I grew up with. Just don't try to go there if you want to whisper - like any Italian gathering, it gets louder with more folks there, so you may need to be louder to converse with your party. [12 Jun 2003 14:49:23]

Never Had a Bad Experience Here I've been to this restaurant several times over the past few years, and I've never had a bad meal, snooty wait-staff, or an overly-long wait. The food has been fanastic. They've got a new chef de cuisine now (the last one went on to open his own place in Brookline...am looking forward to going there) but the food, to my mind, hasn't suffered one bit. To my mind, this is easily the best restaurant in Waltham, and would but several of the better places in Boston to the test. Yes, the room is smallish and a bit crowded and it can, indeed, get noisy on busy nights. But the superiority of the food overcomes all this. Can't really recommend one dish, as the menu is seasonal, and no dishes carry over from season to season. Anything braised, though, is usually a winner. And whatever the antipasto dish is, order it. Bruschetta's also a safe bet - again, varying from season to season, but it's always good. [24 Feb 2004 08:36:04]

This Place Sucks It's crowded, and the menu is unimpressive. We ordered a smoked salmon appetizer, and the green stuff on the top of it looked exactly like parrot sh*t. And it didn't taste much better. The service was ok, but it took a long time to get bread and we never got butter. The entrees were just humdrum. Not worth the price. Take your money and go to another good Italian restaurant in Boston. [19 Jun 2004 19:15:16]

Delicious Great food. Pricing is very reasonable. soup, appetizer, two entrees, dessert and a bottle of wine for just around $100.
Love the olives as an alternative to bread on the table. [18 May 2005 11:06:19]

Wonderful I have not been back in a while but every time I travel to Boston I eat at the Tuscan Grill. I used to work with Raytheon on a project up there and would eat at the Tuscan Grill every chance I got. I've had pan seared striped bass, a lamb dish, steaks, and pastas there and they were all great. I used to eat at the huge, old wooden bar and talk to Sylvan, the French bartender. He was always as professional as could be and would recommend great wines with each meal. Overall a wonderful place with great food, service, and atmosphere. [16 Oct 2006 16:31:49]
