Great food in pleasant surroundings When you enter the basement restaurant of the Admiral Fell Inn, you turn right for elegant surroundings and left for a pub atmosphere. I stopped by on a muggy night and opted for the pub--mostly because I felt a little bedraggled by the weather.
In the pub, you can order from the dining room or pub menu. I'm a lover of appetizers, and I had a lobster salad--almost enough of a meal in itself and some crispy fried portobella mushrooms. The lobster had a fresh succulent taste and texture. Surrounded by avocado, pink grapefruit, and hearts of palm, and placed on a bed of Boston lettuce, the salad was complimented by a light vinaigrette. The mushrooms proved a good accompaniment. Ella Fitzgerald singing Gershwin tunes in the backroom, a friendly barmaid who served me a sour apple martini, and a pleasant atmosphere added to the experience. Now I can’t wait to go back and try the Warm Green Garden Soup with purple potatoes. [17 Jun 2002 11:43:25]
