Fine Dining in a Coutnry Setting
This restaurant is on the outskirts of the tiny and commercially-restricted town of Brookeville, which is a federal historic site having very briefly been the Capital of the USA when the British occupied Washington DC during the War of 1812. The building itself is a converted country farmhouse on what remains of a farm that used to occupy this site. Most of the dining areas are small rooms in the original farmhouse, but towards the rear a large area suitable for groups and special events has been added.

It is the most elegant and expensive restaurant for miles around, with very elaborate menu choices on a varied but somewhat limited menu that changes daily. The food quality is generally excellent, with the exception of the breads which might better be obtained from Safeway. I count this as a major flaw in a restaurant this expensive. One the other hand, even simple desserts can be spectacularly good.

They do have pre-theater (Olney Theater) specials, but these are cut-down dinners that do not measure up to the quality of the main menu.

The atmosphere will vary considerably, depending on which room you are seated in, and can be cold in winter next to a drafty window. They have yet to make any use of outdoor seating in summer, which I think is a unfortunate given the setting.

Because of the price, I am somewhat harsh with my evaluation. The restaurant strives to be a first class dining facility, but the inconsistencies prevent me from rating it as truly outstanding.    [18 May 2006 13:12:04]

Perfect Evening, Delicious Food
We had dinner there in June 2007. It was delicious. The crab cake is the best I have ever eaten out. It was all crab meat and no filler. The Delmonico steak was grilled to perfection, very tasty. The grouper had a very wonderful crusty covering on it, and the side dishes were all very tasty. We loved the crispy salads and it is true that they could do better with the bread! The desserts were to die for and each one of us had a different wine and they were each good! A lovely experience. The clean, freshly painted, and perfectly decorated interior were very comfortable and thus it turned out to be a wonderful evening. We recommend it highly and will return again for another meal and look forward to trying other dishes.    [06 Jul 2007 02:19:06]

Loved it and it WAS NOT too expensive
We had never been and yet live very nearby in Ashton, MD. We loved every bit of food that we ordered, we were sitting next to a window in January and were not cold at all. We are going back again tonight and look forward to our meal!    [16 Feb 2008 19:34:55]
