Although the atmosphere is nice ( as they describe it - Equestrian) and the restaurant was pretty full, our meal was unimpressive.
$13.95 bought me a very plain meal of fish and chips, overly battered and fried at a low enough temperature to make the fish greasy.
It was difficult to get our waitresses' attention even when she walked right next to our table.
The meal presentation was average to below average and came off more tavern or pub-like than the style of the restaurant and prices would have suggested. [12 Nov 2002 13:20:39]

The Black Horse Tavern The Black Horse is a main stay in Bridgton you can always count on the staff to be friendly . The food is consistent,we find the fried food excellent. Its a happy day when we get to the Black Horse and the special board has Fried Oysters my mouth waters just thinking about them . [07 Apr 2004 00:42:21]

Not quite there yet The atmosphere is nice and the menu range is excellent. Lately prices have increased and quality decreased in the food department. The filet mignon is not a filet - and is way over priced. Chicken is a good, gumbo is good, and the lemon squares are the best
Waitstaff is generally friendly and competent. [06 Jul 2004 11:15:59]

Mixed feelings WE went this Spring for dinner, and had mixed feelings. Very pricy, especially for the portions given!! "City Prices" in a rural area was the comment that came to mind. It was quite a busy night and out waitress had her hands full but was extremely competent, funny, and our food was delivered quickly and piping hot! Drinks were weak- stick with beer! I would come in again for the entertainment provided by our waitress (a young, longtime local of the area who can tell a great story while carrying a tray bigger than she is!) [29 Jul 2006 15:15:13]

Great food and service with friendly atmosphere and staff. Daily specials. Best fried oysters (when available) I've ever had. Bridgton's version of "Cheers". [16 Apr 2007 13:49:07]
