We'll never return. We experienced everything the Whitehall Inn had to offer. Overnight accommodations, breakfast, and dinner. We were left feeling terribly disappointed.
At breakfast, we were noticed by the server, but instead of seating us, she simply nodded an acknowledgment and left us standing there while she ran from various tables and to the kitchen and back. Seating a couple only takes a brief moment. In the end, she told us to "sit wherever".
The breakfast is $14 per person. It has a "gourmet" feel to it, but the portions are minimal. We were very disappointed in the wait service. We tried flagging wait staff down for more juice, only to finish our meal before we had a chance to receive the refill. The waitress was brief and relatively unfriendly.
While waiting for our meal, I noticed the floors were dirty and there were spiders making webs in the window beside our table. The restaurant was loud and echoy, it was hard to carry on any sort of intimate conversation.
As for dinner, it was only available for very limited hours and we felt it was overpriced, especially considering how small the portions were. We had to literally wait nearly an hour and a half for our food to arrive. While the food tasted fine, it was nothing special and considering the wait and it's price, it ultimately was quite the let-down.
We also made a very unfortunate mistake with tipping. We left a 20% tip for the waitress, only to later discover after leaving the Inn that a 20% tip was automatically added to our total dining bill. Since we had had a few drinks with our meal, this slipped past our notice. Automatically adding a tip to a bill is not a common practice, and the waitress had not brought this to our attention. So, in the end, she received a 40% tip from us. Our service certainly was nothing exceptional and did not merit that kind of tip.
All in all, we were strongly disappointed in our experience with this Inn. We will never return, and we have advised our friends and family of our bad experience. [23 Jun 2007 22:57:13]
