Maybe Dinner?
We went to 5.5.5 for Sunday Brunch on Columbus Day Weekend at 9:45am. Although there was only one other party in the restaurant, the greeter curtly asked whether we had a reservation(!). We did, and having got over that, we settled in expecting a great brunch. (The restaurant never got more than 30% full during the time that we were there.) Starters of Lobster Salad and Swiss Granola with Fruit Compote were nicely done, as were the mains of "Traitor's Eggs" (their version of Eggs Benedict) and Beef Wellington, made from braised short rib meat in a pastry crust. But that's just it, all were nicely done but lacking that "Wow" factor that one would expect from a restaurant of its reputation. We had planned to go there in a few weeks for dinner, but after this rather routine Sunday Brunch, perhaps we will look elsewhere, Portland being so chock-full of excellent restaurants?
