Hidden Gem Even though my wife and I ate at Primo two years ago the memory lives on. That was our second trip and was even better than the first. Unfortunatly neither of us can remember exactly what we ate but both agree it was great, the service superb, the surroundings great and just a wonderful event. Price a little high for the area but well worth it. You do need reservations but if you leave a voice message they actually call you back. The on line menu is great and helps lots. The co-owners run a great kitchen but a poor restaurant.
Food and service were great but.........
This was the second time I've experienced serious, unacceptable noise problems from another table, and after travelling a long distance and paying this price I would expect the management to do something. This time it was a large group from Texas who were so loud (also singing Barbara Ann, several times) that there was an audible sigh and applause when they left.
I complained to the management after and not only did not get a reply but when I called to check on their receipt of my email encountered an argument instead about what had happened (most of her facts were dead wrong, including the name of our waitress who was also not very happy with this group). Only reply was an apology for our meal being spoiled by a large group - big deal.
Would strongly advise giving Primo a big pass, but if you must go leave immediately if there is a loud, rowdy crowd or table because the management frankly cares more about the quality of the food than the quality of the environment diners may experience.
Definitely recommend another place in Portland where the food, service and atmosphere are all terrific. Worth the drive from Rockland. [12 Oct 2005 19:10:43]
