Not flawless, but pretty darned good.
I recently had my first meal at Banfield's Westside. It's not a slick-looking place, but is comfortable and has seating for both those who like bright, open rooms and those who prefer dark, cozy bars.

The night I was there, they were running a couple of grills outdoors, so I ordered the pork ribs. They were grilled a little more well-done than I usually like, but they had a nice, smoky taste, with a sauce that stood out without overpowering the meat. Not overly vinegary, but not sweet enough to grab one's tongue and scream "SWEET!" like some other sauces I've had.

I've a weakness for beer batter onion rings. Banfield's delivered very well on these. They arrived large and plump, hot from the fryer and didn't get overly soggy, even though it took a while to work through the generous portion.

The joint was crowded, but service was prompt. There was some confusion about just what was available at any given time from the grill. The grill was a bottleneck for food orders- items that the kitchen could prepare were dispatched quickly.

The selection of beer and liquor was decent for a large-ish neighborhood bar. There are no real surprises here.

After about 7:00 or 8:00, the smoke started drifting into the non-smoking room through the large entryway from the bar. The next time I go (and I will go back), I'll go a bit earlier to avoid this. The non-smoking room does get rather loud as it fills up.

There's a game room alongside the non-smoking room. I didn't take the time to check it out, but it doesn't interfere with anything in the bar or dining room.    [01 Nov 2005 11:32:15]

One very bad experience has put me off!
We recently moved into the area and on the last day of moving we ordered a much needed carry-out... It was burgers and such.. But VERY good, either that or we were just that hungry!! A week or so later we took a friend there for dinner and we had the BBQ that they were cooking out side... again VERY GOOD!!

Being 7 months pregnant I was craving one of those fantastic burgers the other night and sent my husband out to get carry out... He took a long time and I was wondering what the hold up was. Turns out he had to wait over 40 minutes for a burger and Pannini (it wasn't crowded at all) when the food came home it was cold, we had no napkins, there were no condiments and none on the burger (although it says it comes with them). They charged us over $7.00 for half a pannini and 1/4 cup of soup that we were instructed to heat ourselves. The staff made a comment to my husband... "oh that's alot of food" all we ordered was a burger and fries and pannini... We didn't realise we were having our calories counted as well! Never again!    [25 Aug 2006 20:08:10]

Great roadhouse
Banfield's Westside is the real deal...many beers, strong drinks, locals and touristas in attendance, suprisingly good food including wood fired BBQ in nice weather, lots of TVs, sporting crapola, large game room and outstanding service considering the sometimes intense crowds, especially for Michigan events (Monica is the best). All right off I-94 south of exit 169 (Zeeb Road). Do it!    [13 Apr 2007 13:10:25]
