Description

Upscale, contemporary Mexican cuisine including steaks, fine dining seafood, along with the more typical Mexican entrees. Located in the Cultural Center of Detroit, the decor is modern with track lighting, room dividers and black/chrome furnishings. As for the bar, there are 60+ tequilas to choose from as well as many Mexican beers, and a full bar. The margaritas are consistantly voted best in town

Restaurateur returns to Woodward - The Detroit News, By Tenisha Mercer , 7 August 2002; Agave's owners, Christ Mugianis, from left, John Lopez, general manager, and chefs Marco Chavez, Mark Woodford and Carlos Bonilla (picture right) work at the upscale, Mexican restaurant on Woodward in Detroit. Twenty years in the restaurant business had taken its toll on John Lopez. "I needed a break," said Lopez, who said he relaxed and refocused himself at his new home. But the industry Lopez wanted to escape from, six years later, beckoned. Lopez, along with partners Marco Chavez and Josh Baker, opened Agave, a Mexican restaurant, on Woodward and Canfield, in June. Sandwiched between Midtown and the University Cultural District, Agave, which is named after the flower tequila is made from, is just minutes away from Union Street, Lopez's old stomping grounds. - suggest change

Great Experience
In the hole of a city that is Detroit, Agave is a welcome Oasis. In what appears to be a posh and upscale Mexican restaurant based on the decor and menu options, the prices are tough to beat. I went there on a Friday night and there were still plenty of open tables. The service was superb, always plenty of outstanding chips and salsa and the dish was prepared to my liking-a hard task considering how picky of an eater I am.    [03 Feb 2005 19:20:44]

Good Food, Nice atmosphere
Went there during one of their "Artists Open House" nights. They had a free buffet that was wonderful, then we ordered drinks and a meal, food was great, service was quick, and drinks were ample    [13 Oct 2005 10:27:01]

Fantastic Place!
This place has amazing food and great service. Their bar is amazing well stocked. If your expecting Mexican food, they have some of what you'd expect, but the majority of the menu was dishes that I would expect at an upscale fine ding place. Rich sauces and little touches like diced mango salsa on one of the fish dinners (mahi mahi, i think). Check it out.    [01 Feb 2006 16:12:42]
