House of India's prices are stuck in a '60s time warp—soup for a dollar—but it's the quality of the food that brings me back to this simple storefront. - CitySearch - suggest change

Good Indian Food I used to get takeout here 2/3 times a month for about a year. The food was good even by indian standards (that's me), but I wish they had reduced prices for takeout b/c you're not paying for sitting in the restaraunt. The place was nice, not over the top, but a good clean place to eat. I will say the staff could use improvement. They need more people, and a couple of the waiters could use better manners. I had seen them interacting with American patrons, and I think the communication barrier prevented them from being more pleasant and providing better customer service. [30 Jan 2005 19:21:19]

Love this place House of India is a great place to sit down, alone or with a friend or two, and enjoy authentic Indian cuisine. The menu is enormous, so my only problem is choosing an entree. The service is unobtrusive, and sometimes seemingly borderline rude, but that could definitely be the result of cultural barrier. I've always felt quite comfortable in the restaurant, and have never had a dissatisfying experience. [29 Jan 2006 12:54:07]

Under New Management as of 2006 This restaurant used to be my favorite Indian restaurant in the area by far. However, earlier this year new management took over, and since then it leaves a lot to be desired. The prices have remained the same, but the quality/quantity of food has decreased. For example, naan used to be served with every entree; it is no longer included as part of the meal. And rice used to be served individually with every entree; now you have to divide one small plate of rice among 4 entrees (for takeout, at least). I don't recommend House of India any longer as a good restaurant. [07 Mar 2006 12:43:09]

Great! The food there is delicious. The prices are way reasonable as well. The staff is also authentic giving a true experience. It is hands down my favorite restaurant. I think the owners recently moved and opened a place called Royal Indian Cuisine in Troy, I heard that place was great too! [09 Mar 2006 04:55:02]
