What happened?
Our family has been coming to Zehnder's since the Mid 50's. My wife and I had dinner there on Saturday Aug. 23, 2003 at about 2pm. We normaly eat in the main serving area. On this day we for some reason elected to have dinner at the town room downstairs, we were told it's the exact same menu and food as upstairs. Well low and behold we ordered the family style chicken dinner, the soup was COLD had to be sent back, the dressing which I love tasted like a lump of soggy bread with virtually no flavor, I tried to enhance it with the giblet gravey which was luke warm and with its ration of 1 1/2 giblets. The waiter brought more gravey but the dressing was terrible. The chicken which is usually tender and moist was dry. I probably should have made more of a fuss but was in no mood to do so.
The best part of the dinner were the pickles. I and my wife were very disappointed with the food served that day. You may want to review your food policy in the Town Room.
I hope that the next time we visit these problems are corrected. You can be sure if they are not, I will be vocal and probably go the another eatery.    [28 Aug 2003 21:48:34]

The best chicken dinner around.
My family and I love to come to Zehnder's to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions. My parents are regular customers even though it takes them an hour to get there. Besides the outstanding food, we love the ambiance and the service. We have always had wonderful wait persons. It is very rare to have a bad dish, although sometimes the dressing is too salty. I recommend this restaurant to everyone I know.    [04 Dec 2004 22:13:29]

Giving Zehnder's of Frankenmuth another try.
My husband and I chose to eat at Zehnders for my 55th birthday in October. We usually go to the Bavarian Inn. I heard the food is the same so thats why we went to Zehnders.

Well... the food wasn't the same. Sure the chicken was, but the mashed potatoes tasted like instant mashed potatoes, the dressing was sticky and mushy, the noodles didn't have that extra buttery taste and were so-so. We never got the squash. The server forgot about us.... and it just didn't have the special atmosphere we had hoped for.

We are giving it another try on Sunday January 9th for my husband's birthday. Hope we have better service and the quality of food has improved or its back to the Bavarian Inn for us.    [09 Jan 2005 01:40:08]

It's the only gig in town. We were there this past Saturday. I would have to say next time let's not bother. There are better restaurants and food closer to home.

Why serve quality when you are the main attraction? Now the service was top-notch, but I can't say a whole lot about the food. Zehnder's of Frankenmuth will probably not get my business if I go back to Frankenmuth again.    [24 Oct 2005 14:08:18]

Decline of Quality
I moved back to Michigan from Florida and our first trip was back to Frankenmuth for their famous chicken dinner. We went to Zehnder's and the food all had the same bland taste. The noodled and stuffing were mushy and cold and the mashed potatoes left much to be desired. The bread was dry and stale. The service did nothing to improve the taste of the food.    [28 Sep 2006 17:03:56]

First Bad Meal
We have been going to Zehnder's since the 1970s and we experienced our first truly low-quality meal on 7 November 2006. The best-kept secret on the menu, the all-white-meat hot chicken sandwich, was hot (the only good point). The chicken tasted stale and was hard and stringy. I hope this isn't the start of a downward trend.    [08 Nov 2006 16:24:22]

Quality has gone down over the years. We really enjoyed Zehnders for many years (like from the 50's).

Now I find it mediocre. Sorry. Someone really needs to take a look at the fact they have really gone larger and more commmercial. When that happens the ambiance is comprimised. Where is the family, are they looking at what is happening???    [21 Nov 2006 11:52:09]

QUALITY IMPROVED SINCE LAST VISIT
Our last visit was a major disappintment, but we tried the family style chicken dinner again and the taste and preparation had improved. The chicken, cole slaw, gravy and squash were delicious. The stuffing and mashed potatos were mediocre again. They should stop using instant potatos. The chunks of real potato they add aren't fooling anybody.

Overall, meal was much improved, but still needs work. In going so commercial, Zehnder's has lost its "Mom's chicken dinner" atmosphere and flavor.    [29 Oct 2007 14:56:31]
