Awful service We went to Coho this evening for dinner, but were ignored at the entry for over 15 minutes, while 5 staff members chatted behind the bar within sight. I guess they don't want the business. We left and dined elsewhere. They didn't seem at all concerned by our departure. [01 Oct 2005 22:08:05]

We have gone many times. It is delicious. It's true the service is uneven. The flourless chocolate cake is to die for. [02 Mar 2006 19:10:22]

Mmmm...love the Coho! Try the club, or anything with their smoked bacon. It truly is the best I've ever had.
The service was great. They aim to give the vacationing guest the atmosphere and service they are looking for! [16 May 2007 15:23:49]

A highlight of the season I wait eagerly all Winter for Coho to open for the year. It's one of my favorite places on the planet. The services issues are rare. We have always found the staff to be attentive, and we go there a dozen times per season easily. [15 Apr 2008 11:55:59]

Awful is too kind. I normally would not waste time on a bad review; just never go back. But, tonight was so bad I have to tell somebody. In years past we have had lunch at he Coho and the food was OK for a small summer town café. Tonight our guest suggested we try it for dinner.
We entered and stood at the podium for several minutes before a surly women asked if we had reservations. We did not. She asked how many (3) and without a word disappeared to the rear. It was 7:15 and there were at least 5 empty tables inside. Two groups of people behind us came and then left. We should have. Eventually she returned, placed menus on an empty table, scooped up the fourth place setting and returned to the podium (where she ignored the next waiting group for several minutes). We had plenty of time to review the menu before the waitress asked if we would like a beverage. All there of us ordered the blackboard special "Watermelon Mint Julep" and I asked about the dinner specials. We were told "it's like the wing of a sting ray, kind of stringy but very good" and she left.
Some bread and a plate of EVOO with shredded ?? stuff was the highlight of the evening. Too bad there were only 3 small pieces in the basket. They were long gone when the waitress returned for the third time to say our drinks would be right up and would we like to order. Yes, Pasta, Trout and Chicken. Would you like rice or potato, soup or salad? One rice, one potato, one salad and two soups. She left and finally brought the drinks. Three red things in wine glasses with a sprig of wilted mint came. It had a strange flavor and we all agreed no alcohol.
Our guest said the salad was fair, some lettuce and a slice of red onion. The special 'smooth' tomato soup seemed more like canned with a splash of Tabasco and a couple of Asian noodles.
The pasta filled the bowl and there were a couple of shrimp… The trout 'almandine' was not crusted as advertised, but instead had 5 or 6 almond slices on top; and the butterfly fish was hiding the rice and broccoli stalks underneath. The most disappointing was the chicken. It had been ordered with the promise of morel mushrooms; none were found. We think the closest the dish came to mushrooms was a can of soup. Knowing that carryout was advertised, our guest asked to take the excess pasta home and after the second request (when we were asked for dessert), a light plastic cold sandwich container was dropped on the table. Again we were asked for dessert, and again declined. I pulled my American Express. The waitress saw it and said, "I thought a saw that card. I can spot them a mile away. I hope you have something else. You don’t want to wash dishes tonight!" There was no humor in her voice. I quickly pulled a Visa, which she grabbed and left. With the speed we were becoming accustomed to, she returned with two folders and placed one in front of me. It was my card and my name was on the charge slip, but the amount seemed low and a look at the itemized food slip confirmed it was not our meal. I should have just signed and left, but that is not the way I was raised. After a minute I caught her eye and she returned looking ready for an argument. When I showed her the slip she agreed that there had been an error and once again disappeared with my card and the slips. When she returned, the tab was larger but this time there was no itemized slip. When I asked for one, she said it had already been closed out. So I completed the charge ticket with my standard but very undeserved 20% tip. As we were standing to leave, she handed me a ‘duplicate’ itemized slip: $7.50 each for the 'drinks' (liquor total $22.50) and $4 each for soup and salad that we all thought was include in the meal. WOW We were appropriately dressed, well mannered, with two over 60 and one over 30. There was enough staff that several could visit with customers around us. There were empty tables the entire time we were there. In the small area I couldn’t help but notice several other parties were ignored for a time at the podium.
The web says” Gourmet seafood restaurant in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.” We say “ D-none of the above” Maybe in March, April or May as above, but not 'in season'. For us NEVER EVER AGAIN [02 Jul 2008 00:46:48]

Review from WineX Magazine Next, right down the street is Coho Café (320 Main Street). Here we were not only treated to a sampling of food but wine as well. Chef Kari White presented the following dishes:
First, the bread here is delish.
First Course:
House Salad with choice of Raspberry Vinaigrette or Balsamic Vinaigrette – both dressings were perfectly balanced and tasty.
Wines Paired:
Good Harbor 2006 Pinot Grigio – Leelanau Peninsula (Michigan) Dry, crisp, well-balanced wine, with peach, pear and citrus flavors, and some floral spices. The crisp acidity makes it a perfect candidate for seafood and shellfish.
Mapema 2005 Tempranillo – Mendoza, Argentina A nice, simple red with good balance and a nice lingering soft finish.
Second Course:
Orange Glazed Atlantic Salmon with Orange Marmalade, which is blackened briefly – absolutely outstanding! Tender, great spicy component and sweet lingering flaves.
Wine Paired:
Chateau Grand Traverse Late Harvest Riesling (Michigan) This medium-sweet wine worked wonderfully with the glaze on the salmon. Well-balanced, this riesking has a really nice mouthfeel and lingering finish. Good choice.
Third Course:
Alaskan Halibut seared with Potato-Thyme Crust – another outstanding dish. Others had it with a brown butter sauce, but I don’t think it needed anything else. The fish was so moist it literally melted in my mouth. Three for three!
Wine Paired:
Martin Codax 2006 Albarino, Spain Worked well with the halibut. Crisp, dry, floral and a lingering snappy finish. Snappy? Yes, snappy!
Fourth Course(s):
Black & White Sesame Yellowfin Tuna served with a ginger-scallion sauce – either I’ve forgotten what mediocre food tastes like or this is another brilliant dish. Especially the sauce. And the tuna was prepared perfectly.
Crispy Stuffed Chicken stuffed with prosciutto, roasted red peppers, asparagus and goat cheese, with a red pepper-tomato sauce – can I be redundant? Superb!
For dessert we were offered Panna Cotta and Kahlua Chocolate Mousse. I watched as the others partook in shameless gluttony.
Coho Café is probably some of the best cuisine I’ve tasted anywhere. Don’t miss it. Or you’ll be sorry. [28 Jun 2009 17:23:10]
